On Thursday, the government of Ontario, Canada, won a court order freezing almost US$8 million in contributions sent to the Freedom Convoy through the GiveSendGo portal. According to a statement from Premier Doug Ford’s office, the Ontario Superior Court of Justice ordered that any donations made through the Christian fundraising platform’s “Freedom Convoy 2022” and “Adopt a trucker” campaigns be frozen until further notice. The application for the restraint order was filed by Ontario Attorney General Doug Downey, who used 490.8 of the Criminal Code as justification for freezing the cash, according to the statement.
