According to a new assessment, the condition of democracy in Canada has deteriorated in recent years, knocking it out of the top ten most stable democracies in the world. The report attributes this to the effects of COVID-19 limits on personal freedoms and related public attitude. The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), based in London, released its annual Democracy Index study on Feb. 10 that ranked 167 nations in 2021 based on factors such as electoral procedures and civil rights.
