“Job 31:1, 9,11–12″I promised my eyes that I would not look at a girl with lust.
9″If my heart has been enticed by a woman, or if I have lurked at my neighbor’s door, …
11 We should have been ashamed of that, a sin that should be judged. 12It’s a fire that destroys everything; it would have ripped my harvest apart.
In Job 31, Job began to list the things he had done right. His friends seemed to think that he must have been hiding a sin. Up until now, Job didn’t want to talk about the details of his righteousness. But since they insisted, he started to list all the things he had already thought about in his own mind.
Lust was the first one that was talked about. Job knew that lust was bad for him, so he promised his eyes that he would not look at a girl with lust. He knew it was a fire that would destroy everything. He had likely seen that fire in the lives of young guys in the city where he lived. He learned something from hearing their sad stories.
There are many reasons to ignore this wise advice in the present day. Society says it’s wrong to treat women like things, but it doesn’t care about how women look when it comes to fashion, entertainment, and even contests for the most beautiful woman in a certain area. What should women do today if it was hard for men in the days of Job, when women wore robes? We can do what Job did. Look into their eyes; they show you what’s inside. Don’t think of the person as anything other than a soul that will live forever and be loved by God. Today, this plan works well for both men and women. Don’t make jokes about wanting someone else’s body. It’s not something to laugh about. It’s a fire that will destroy everything. In this area, there aren’t many people who follow the lead these days. People think it’s religious or conservative.
As told, be a good example for yourself. Don’t become another case of the fire that destroys everything. Today, make a promise with your eyes!
