That’s what our Bible tells us in 1Peter2:2,3. “Desire the sincere milk of the word that ye may grow thereby. If so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious”. Think about this for a moment. This means that the believer’s initial and subsequent growth must begin with and have as it’s foundation the sincere milk of the word. This shows how very important it is that we hear the truth about salvation and all that is linked to it right from the start to insure that the growth we experience in all the areas the scriptures teach us about is based on solid Biblical truth. A solid foundation. And not on man’s wisdom. And only then will we be prepared to partake of the meat that gives us the ability to discern between good and evil as Heb.5:14 says.

But, what if we hear what we think is truth and it is not truth and we begin building our house of faith on it? Can we build a solid Biblical foundation on what is not Biblically true? No we can’t. So we need to know how to discern the difference between what we have been told is true and what is actually true. And we do this by comparing what we have come to believe is true to what the Bible plainly says is true as we partake of the milk of the word. Are you willing to examine yourself to see whether you be in the faith as Paul exhorted us to do? Or is it too juvenile an exercise to go back to the first things for someone as mature in the things of God?

Here’s an example of what I mean. Let’s say you are told that the reason you need Jesus is because Jesus paid your penalty for sin because you are guilty before God for breaking His laws. And that even if you haven’t broken God’s laws- an abject impossibility so you have been told because of a sin nature you inherited from Adam- you are still guilty of the sin of Adam. But, when you read your Bible you find statements to the contrary such as Paul’s teaching in Rom.5:13 that says “before the law sin was in the world, but sin is not imputed when there is no law”. Not imputed? What does this mean? It means God is not condemning or holding against you any breaking of the law He gave to Israel.

Then you read that even under the law the son does not bear the iniquity for the sins of the father in Ez.18:20. And that under the law only the soul that sins dies. When you see this you discover that believing that you are guilty of Adam’s sin when there was no law is in direct contradiction to the Bible. Oh, what to do, what to do. Do I believe what the Bible says or what man says? We have a choice to make don’t we?

Then you read Paul teaching how that God was in Christ by the cross not imputing their trespasses to them in 2Cor.5:19. Also corroborated in Col.2:13-15. And that this is the message of reconciliation that believers are to be taking to the world. But, instead of taking this message to the world- that God is not imputing trespasses to them so that they can now be reconciled to God- many are preaching the exact opposite. Saying that it is because God does impute trespasses against them that they need Jesus. What are we to do with such stark contradictions? And how did these contradictions come to be the mainline doctrines of the so called church anyway since they do contradict the plain teaching in the Bible?

To deal with such stark contradictions we first need to decide what will be our baseline for truth. Is it what the Bible plainly says or what religions and their leaders tell us it is? Do we believe what the Bible teaches or do we believe what man teaches? What you choose to be your baseline for truth will express whether your allegiance is to God and His word or man and his teaching. And what you choose will be the milk that causes your growth.

If you have chosen God’s word as your baseline for truth then your growth will be in accord with what His word plainly says. And you will know the truth and that truth will set you free. You will grow by first desiring the milk of the word to be able to eat the meat after becoming the mature man of God that He wants you to be. But, if you have chosen man’s teaching to be your baseline for truth your growth will reflect the natural thinking of man. And there will be no truth in you. Choosing to believe what the Bible plainly says will lead you to become the man who is able to discern between what God says is good and evil.

But, choosing man’s teaching will lead you to be unable to discern between what God says is good and evil. It will lead you to begin making determinations regarding good and evil based on works instead of faith. On works instead of a loving relationship. Believing statements like “we are justified by the works of Christ and not our own”. Instead of what the Bible plainly says. That “by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified”. Another stark contradiction that shows that man’s teaching does not lead to the righteousness of God.

If you have been led astray by following man’s teachings instead of the plain teaching in the Bible that has led you to believe in a justification by works, and have now seen that the truth is very different, then turn from it(repent) and believe the plain teaching in the Bible. Believe God not man. Return to your first love as Jesus admonished the church at Ephesus. Your love for Jesus that resulted from realizing that He loved you first- a love that brought you to believe in Him in the first place. And once again desire the sincere milk of the word that ye may grow thereby. “Thereby” meaning that it is not a growth that comes from man’s wisdom which is justification by works.

But, growth that comes from believing in Jesus as He showed us He believed the Father saying “Nevertheless not my will but thine be done”. By the faith of Christ that if kept in our hearts as we read the scriptures we see the love of God on every page. Which is exactly what we should see on every page since God is love.

The Epitome of Black.. | pearlsofprofundity

Love that leads a man to repentance. Love that casts out fear. Love that conquers all. Love that remains long after faith and hope are no more. Love that is the basis for our giving. Love that suffers long, is kind, vaunts not itself, is not puffed up, does not behave unseemly. Love that seeks not her own, is not easily provoked. Love that thinks no evil, rejoices not in iniquity but rejoices in the truth. Love that bears all things, and endures all things. Love that never fails. Not just in this life, but also the next where prophecy, tongues, and knowledge vanish away. Love that makes the child into a man so that we put away the childish things of justification by works.

Can you return to your fist love? Will you return to your first love? Or have you believed the lies that justification comes by works for so long now that you can not see that they are lies? If you will heed the warnings in this message that come from the Bible you can return to your first love- your love for Jesus after you discovered He first loved you- and you will be set free from those lies so you can begin to grow in the sincere milk of the word. And be made able to discern between what is good and what is evil. Between what is right and almost right. Which is to discern between the lies of satan that would have you believe justification is by the works of Christ. Or the justification the Bible teaches saying that justification only comes by the faith of Christ and not by His works of the law in Gal.2:16-21.

If you will trust in Jesus today as He trusted the Father for justification then please pray with me.

Dear Jesus, thank you for loving me. Thank you for joining with me in my death so that by believing you as you believed the Father I could join with you in your life. Deliver me from being captive by the devil at his will. Help me to learn not to oppose myself. Help me to forsake the justification by works doctrine that the bad milk I got at the first grew me in. Thank you for the sincere milk of the word that I can now grow by to be the man of God you want me to be. Thank you for loving me so that I could learn to love you. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

If you prayed that prayer then begin now to read the Bible through the eyes of love. God’s love. And your first love. Desire the sincere milk of the word so that your growth will now be in accord with what the Bible plainly teaches. And come back often to her the word of God so that you can learn to be the man of God He wants you to be. Time is short. This life is fleeting. We don’t know when the Lord will call us home so there is no time to waste. See you there or in the air!
