Featured Story

Hillsong in a Word, ( impostors ) — Liberal Christianity often denies the miracles recorded in the Bible. If there are no miracles, there is no Christianity, as the Christian faith is built on the resurrection of Jesus Christ (see 1 Corinthians chapter 15). If the miracles in the Bible are not true, the human authors of Scriptures were liars — they were the false prophets Jesus warned us about (oh, wait, did Jesus actually say anything about false prophets?!?!) Do you see the problem here?

If God decided to give us a book that is supposed to guide us through life and eternity but allowed that book to be filled with myths, lies, half-truths, and misconceptions — is He a God worth following? What kind of God is that? How cruel, twisted, and…ungodly. No, if God is who the Bible says He is, He is perfectly holy, just, righteous, gracious, loving, and merciful. Giving humanity an error-filled book would not agree with any of those attributes.

Liberal Christianity essentially wants to pick and choose which parts of the Bible are from God. They want to accept “Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows…” (James 1:27) and reject “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6). I can’t live my life like that. If God did not bother to give me a reliable instruction manual, why should I bother following any of His instructions? If God’s Word is not infallible and trustworthy, why should I care what it says? That is where liberal Christianity goes wrong. Liberal Christianity destroys the very foundation of Christianity — the Word of God. Liberal Christianity essentially tells us to follow a book (or at least certain parts of a book) that they themselves do not believe in.

UPDATEHillsong Leader Denies Renouncing Faith, but Says He’s on ‘Incredibly Shaky Ground’

Marty Sampson, a worship music writer, singer, and active member of Hillsong has publicly denounced his faith on social media.

His announcement comes just weeks after well-known Christian author Joshua Harris announced his departure from Christianity, both sharing their news over Instagram. Related

FAITHWIREHillsong United Has a Surprisingly Intense Vetting Process for Each and Every Song

Sampson, who has notably written songs for Hillsong Worship, Hillsong United, Delirious and Young & Free, shared a now-deleted post to Instagram, explaining how he is “losing” his faith.

The following is a transcript of the post from Relevant Magazine:

Time for some real talk. I’m genuinely losing my faith, and it doesn’t bother me. Like, what bothers me now is nothing. I am so happy now, so at peace with the world. It’s crazy.

This is a soapbox moment so here I go … How many preachers fall? Many. No one talks about it. How many miracles happen. Not many. No one talks about it. Why is the Bible full of contradictions? No one talks about it. How can God be love yet send four billion people to a place, all ‘coz they don’t believe? No one talks about it. Christians can be the most judgmental people on the planet—they can also be some of the most beautiful and loving people. But it’s not for me.

I am not in anymore. I want genuine truth. Not the “I just believe it” kind of truth. Science keeps piercing the truth of every religion. Lots of things help people change their lives, not just one version of God. Got so much more to say, but for me, I keep it real. Unfollow if you want, I’ve never been about living my life for others.

All I know is what’s true to me right now, and Christianity just seems to me like another religion at this point. I could go on, but I won’t. Love and forgive absolutely. Be kind absolutely. Be generous and do good to others absolutely. Some things are good no matter what you believe. Let the rainfall, the sun will come up tomorrow.

Sampson’s Complaints

Some of Sampson’s reasons for leaving the faith include failing to talk about the church failing to address controversies, the devastation of eternal damnation, and contradictions found in the Bible.

Ken Ham, the CEO and founder of Answers in Genesis, tweeted about Sampson’s post, urging him to look into research regarding his questions, citing sources like Ark Encounter and Creation Museum as helpful tools.

“In his Instagram announcement, among other things, he specifically mentions science, trying to understand a loving God with people going to Hell, & supposed Bible contradictions,” Ham wrote.

“He claims no one talks about such matters,” Ham wrote. “Actually that’s probably true in many church homes & churches—but it’s not true at Answers in Genesis & our two attractions Ark Encounter @ArkEncounter & Creation Museum @CreationMuseum.”

“We produce many resources dealing with these topics to help,” he added. “Parents & churches teach the truth about true science confirming Genesis, & understanding death & suffering in relation to our sin in Adam.”

Ham also pointed out that the inconsistencies in Christian teaching don’t stem from the Bible, but from how people interpret it.

“Sadly many young people in our churches have been taught by compromising church leaders to believe in millions of years, which would mean the death, suffering & disease we see today has been going on for millions of years–thus it’s God’s fault! But death, disease & suffering are a consequence of our sin–it’s our fault,” he added.

Ham went on to add that Answers in Genesis provides books regarding topics that discuss “the supposed contradictions in the Bible to show when passages are properly understood, there are no contradictions.”

“This sad situation about this person is a reminder the church & parents need to teach apologetics to counter today’s attacks on God’s Word,” he concluded.

Many expressed their sadness on Twitter at Sampson’s renouncement of his faith, some calling for prayers, others comparing it to another Christian apostasy.

One Twitter user compared the apostasy of Joshua Harris and Sampson, saying: “Joshua Harris: Doctrinally founded. Relationally, not so much. Marty Sampson: Relationally founded. Doctrinally, not so much. Conclusion: We need BOTH.”

Adrian Tijerina, an M.Div. student Western Seminary tweeted Sampson’s departure from the faith shows the importance of theological training.

Please keep Marty Sampson in your prayers, that he may find repentance, restoration, and reconciliation in his relationship with Christ.

The history of Christ’s church is inseparable from the history of Satan’s attempts to destroy her. While difficult challenges have arisen from outside the church, the most dangerous have always been from within. For from within arise the false teachers, the peddlers of error who masquerade as teachers of truth. False teachers take on many forms, custom-crafted to times, cultures, and contexts. Here are seven of them you will find carrying out their deceptive, destructive work in the church today. Please note that while I have followed the biblical texts in describing them in masculine terms, each of these false teachers can as easily be female.

The Heretic

The Heretic is the most prominent and perhaps the most dangerous of the false teachers. Peter warned against him in his second letter. “But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing upon themselves swift destruction” (2 Peter 2:1). The Heretic is the person who teaches what blatantly contradicts an essential teaching of the Christian faith. He is a gregarious figure, a natural leader teaching just enough truth to mask his deadly error. Yet in denying the faith and celebrating what is false, he leads his followers from the safety of orthodoxy to the peril of heresy.

From the church’s earliest days, she has been afflicted by the Heretic in his various forms. He continues his evil work today, sometimes by contradicting the truth and sometimes by adding to it. He may reframe the doctrine of the Trinity, as Arius did in the third century and as Oneness Pentecostals do today. He may, like Marcus Borg and other prominent scholars, deny the virgin birth or the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Like Jehovah’s Witnesses, he may alter God’s finished word, or like Mormons, he may add to it. Always, he boldly tampers with “the faith that was once for all delivered to the saints” (Jude 1:3).

The Charlatan

The Charlatan is only interested in the Christian faith to the extent that it can fill his wallet.

The Charlatan is the person who uses Christianity as a means of personal enrichment. Paul charged Timothy to be on guard against him. “If anyone teaches a different doctrine and does not agree with the sound words of our Lord Jesus Christ and the teaching that accords with godliness, he is puffed up with conceit and understands nothing. He has an unhealthy craving for controversy and for quarrels about words, which produce envy, dissension, slander, evil suspicions, and constant friction among people who are depraved in mind and deprived of the truth, imagining that godliness is a means of gain” (1 Timothy 6:3-5). The Charlatan is only interested in the Christian faith to the extent that it can fill his wallet. He uses his leadership position to benefit from others’ wealth.

Simon Magus was motivated by the love of money when he tried to purchase the power of the Holy Spirit (Acts 8:9-24). Since him, the Charlatan has appeared in many forms, always seeking prominence in the church so that he can live in extravagance. When Pope Leo X famously commissioned Tetzel to sell indulgences, the profits not only funded the reconstruction of St. Peter’s Basilica, but also his luxurious lifestyle. In the 1990s, televangelist Robert Tilton brought in tens of millions of dollars each year by exploiting the vulnerable and gullible. Today Benny Hinn, Creflo Dollar, and a host of others peddle the prosperity gospel to enrich themselves from their followers’ gifts.

Birth Pangs

Jesus chastised religious leaders in the first century for not knowing the time of His arrival. Will we make the same mistake today? Christ stated how His second coming would be preceded by global events signifying the end of our age. We may not know the day or the hour, but we can know the season!

“And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions.” (Joel 2:28.)

Education is useless without the bible (Daniel Webster)

“Courage is as “fear that has said its prayers.”

John Wesley who said that what we tolerate in our generation, will be embraced by the next. Wesley is 100% correct! We are living in sick times.

Usually, the Lord doth no great thing for or against his people, without giving warning of it before it comes.

They perverted justice among themselves (v. 7): “You turn judgment to wormwood, that is, you make your administrations of justice bitter and nauseous, and highly displeasing both to God and man.’’ That fruit has become a weed, a weed in the garden; as nothing is more venerable, nothing more valuable, than justice duly administered, so nothing is more hurtful, nothing more abominable, than designedly doing wrong under color and pretense of doing right. Corruptio optimi est pessima —The best, when corrupted, becomes the worst.

It is impossible to find anyone in the Bible who was a power for God who did not have enemies and was not hated.

2 Corinthians 4:8-11 New King James Version (NKJV)
8 We are hard-pressed on every side, yet not crushed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; 9 persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed— 10 always carrying about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our body. 11 For we who live are always delivered to death for Jesus’ sake, that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our mortal flesh.

Know what you believe and why, folks. I would encourage everyone to read the following books in their investigation of the truth claims of Christianity:

    Christian authors:
–“The Resurrection of the Son of God” by NT Wright
–“The Death of the Messiah” by Raymond Brown
–“Evidence that Demands a Verdict” by Josh and Sean McDowell

    Skeptic authors:
    –“Misquoting Jesus” by Bart Ehrman
–“The Outsider Test for Faith” by John Loftus
–“Why I Believed, Reflections of a Former Missionary” by Kenneth W. Daniels
