Many artists who had been scheduled to perform at a festival honoring the United States’ 250th birthday have backed out, claiming they were mislead about the event’s political leanings.
Members of Freedom250, the organization responsible for the Great American State Fair, revealed the performing artists lineup for the 16-day event on Wednesday. The fair is scheduled to take place on the National Mall in Washington DC from June 25th to July 10th.
The organization claims the event is non-partisan, although it was founded last year by the Trump administration and the president nominated its CEO.
On Saturday, US President Donald Trump hinted that he may utilize the event to deliver a “major speech” in Washington DC, trash-talking the artists who withdrew from the competition.
A foundation “dedicated to uniting Americans around the nation’s 250th anniversary” is what Freedom 250 claims to be.
The Commodores, Morris Day, Young MC, Bret Michaels (frontman of Poison), and Martina McBride (country singer) are among the artists who have now announced that they would not be performing.
Trump suggested in a Truth Social post that he might attend a different rally at the same time and place instead of the artists since he knew they were getting “the yips” about their performances.
I am giving my representatives the green light to see if it’s possible to hold an AMERICA IS BACK Rally on Wednesday in the nation’s capital at the same time and place. His claim to fame as “the “Number One Attraction anyplace in the World”
