The Bible talks of “the ungodly” as those who are separated from God. Ungodliness is the condition of being polluted with sin. To be ungodly is to act in a way that is contrary to the nature of God, to actively oppose God in disobedience, or to have an irreverent disregard for God. The Bible often speaks of “the flesh” in reference to things that emanate from our sinful natures. The acts of the flesh and the desires of the world fall under the category of ungodliness.
Second Peter 3:7 says that the ungodly will face judgment. Revelation 20:14–15 says, “Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death. Anyone whose name was not found written in the book of life was thrown into the lake of fire.” Ultimately, those who reject God—the ungodly—will be separated from Him forever.
Our children are deliberately being dumbed down in our schools and universities. One of the greatest mistakes that many parents make today is assuming that the college that they’re sending their kids to is the same college that they went to. They couldn’t be more mistaken. There has been a seismic shift in the education institutions of America over the past 50 years. The college radical activists in the 1960s and 70s have become today’s tenured professors. These professors are no longer interested producing graduates with good job prospects, but rather producing dedicated leftist activists.
The rot in the education institutions first started back in 1962 when prayer was taken out of schools. This watershed moment in American history cannot be overstated enough. This event ushered in the age of post-modernism, moral relativism and nihilism where the truth of God creating the heavens and the earth was suppressed and the lie of evolution became the norm. Young Americans were then taught that they had come from nothing, live for no reason, and are going nowhere. Slowly but surely, this had a devastating impact on America’s young, which has resulted in much of the social dysfunction such as family breakdown, depression, sexual promiscuity, drug abuse, domestic violence, divorce, absent fathers, teenage pregnancy and suicide.
Jude refers to false teachers as ungodly. His description contains these characteristics of ungodliness: they pervert the grace of God into a license for immorality, and they deny Jesus Christ as the only Sovereign and Lord (Jude 1:4). Later, Jude mentions the “ungodly acts” of the wicked and “defiant words” that the ungodly speak against God (verse 15). The ungodly are also characterized as “grumblers and faultfinders” who selfishly follow “their own evil desires,” boast and flatter (verse 16). The ungodly scoff at the truth of God and attempt to divide churches (verses 18–19).
The sex offender registry lets you see local offenders in your area, but everything could soon change because a U.S. district court judge ruled Michigan’s sex offender registry unconstitutional.
“They said I had sex with a minor,” said Charles Engram, registered sex offender.
Engram was charged with criminal sexual conduct in 2011. He served prison time and was released in December 2018. He can’t go near schools, his information is public and he is tracked by a tether.
“They can have you put back in prison just like that,” Engram said. “That’s not the same for a person who’s killed somebody. They can have five or six bodies on their hands and they get released, they get parole. There’s no tether put on their leg, none of that,” Engram said.
Engram said he was originally to be placed on the registry for 15 years, but later said it was changed to life.
“It should be designed for those people who are very sick sex offenders who need treatment, who need to be regulated. Not all people who committed a sex offense crime are like that,” Engram said.
“You’re accused of it. You’re convicted of it. Come on now. We as a community have to prioritize things. And I don’t believe the priority should be an offender’s innocence or assistance from the state – what he can or cannot get. It’s your fault. You’re an offender. Suck it up,” said Eric Layton, sexual abuse survivor.
Layton was sexually abused as a child.
“Being molested in foster care, that pretty much took a toll on me that I didn’t really realize until adulthood. It’s a tough thing to hear these types of headlines,” Layton said.
Layton said the sex offender registry not only prevents future assaults, but it gives survivors peace. Revising it feels like a slap in the face, Layton said.
“You should first consider protecting the survivors and preventing this from creating other victims. And then allow offenders what you deem a lesser action or charge, allow them to fight their own battles,” Layton said.
The judge gave the state 90 days to change the registry Source
Amazingly, Jesus sacrificed Himself for the ungodly. Romans 5:6 and 8 says, “You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. . . . God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” God justifies the ungodly (Romans 4:5), clothing them with the righteousness of Christ and enabling them to “live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way” (Colossians 1:10).
Our sanctification is progressive. That is, even though we are saved and justified in Christ, we sometimes still act in ungodly ways. We are still in the process of being transformed into His image (Romans 8:29–30; 2 Corinthians 3:18; Philippians 1:6). We are declared righteous before God but are still being made holy in practical terms. In short, we still sin. Scripture says we should confess our sin and trust God’s forgiveness (1 John 1:8–9). Nothing can separate us from God’s love for us in Christ (Romans 8:31–39). We are no longer numbered among the ungodly, even though we still fight our fleshly urges and sometimes act in ungodly ways.
Generally speaking, the ungodly are those who do not know God through Jesus Christ. They have rejected God’s Son and remain in their sins. Those who are in Christ have their sins forgiven and are becoming more godly. Believers naturally seek to remove all ungodliness from their lives (1 John 3:9).
The concept of “truth” itself has come under attack and now the vast majority of American universities teach that there is no such thing as objective truth. This in effect, has given way to the rise of Leftism and the SJW (social justice warrior) phenomenon. Considering there is no moral accountability, then the sole motivation for people becomes their own happiness. Hence, one’s feelings are even more important than facts.
It is impossible to find anyone in the Bible who was a power for God who did not have enemies and was not hated.
The proliferation of ‘pep talk Christianity’ and the lack of expository Bible teaching in church today have done essentially two things.
Firstly, it has watered down the gospel message. As John MacArthur quipped, “Sin has become less offensive, heaven less appealing, hell less horrific and the gospel less urgent.” Christians have lost their ‘saltiness’ and have become incapable of preventing the world from falling into decay. As the saying goes, when the church loses its voice, the world loses its conscience.
Secondly, it has created an environment that enables false teachers to flourish. Again, this is part of the end times scenario that Jesus warned of in Matt 24:11, “…and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people.” Consequently, the result of the mass deception is the great falling away.
