The Marine Corps announced Thursday that 133 Marines have been discharged for refusing to take the COVID vaccine, as the military services begin to discharge a pool of potentially as many as 30,000 active duty service members who have refused to be vaccinated despite multiple opportunities to do so past vaccination deadlines. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin ordered obligatory COVID vaccinations for all US military members in late August. Shortly after Austin made the COVID vaccine mandatory, the military services quickly set their own deadlines and warned service members that failing to vaccinate could result in discharge, which is consistent with the Pentagon’s position that refusing to vaccinate is a violation of Austin’s lawful order.
