Have you ever heard the saying “THOSE WHO WILL NOT GOVERN THEMSELVES WILL BE GOVERNED BY OTHERS”? We see the proof that this saying is true in all those who wind up in prison. They would not govern themselves so now they are governed by others. Believe it or not, this is what Paul was talking about when he wrote that “The law is not for the righteous man”. But, who are the righteous Paul is talking about here that he says the law is not for? And if the law is not for them, then how is it that they are to order their lives so that they know they are living as God wants them to?

“Clearly no one who relies on the law is justified before God, because “the righteous will live ...

These questions stem from a misunderstanding that is created from what has sadly become the “orthodox” view in Churchianity that says that even when one comes to faith in Jesus all men are still to keep the law. A belief that caused those who questioned Paul’s teaching to ask “Shall we sin that grace might abound?” This is what is really meant by them when using the term “Judeo Christian”. These have actually believed that the Gentile has joined with Israel under the law and are therefore guilty of its violation before God that causes them to “fall short of the glory of God”. When Rom.3:23 is teaching no such thing as I will show later in this message.

Because if this is true then Paul was wrong when he wrote those words in 1Tim.1:9 saying that the law was not made for the righteous man. Because the law is not for the righteous then the law has no place in the New Covenant believer’s life. Because Paul teaches that all who have believed in Jesus are righteous. This is also why in another place(1Cor.10:23) Paul writes “For me all things are lawful”. How can this be true if all men, whether saved or unsaved, are required by God to keep any part of the law? It can’t be. So there must be an explanation for Paul writing such things. One that does not produce contradictions to something else the scriptures say as these have fallen prey to.

An example of this contradiction is when a person believes that Rom.3:23 means that all men are guilty before God because they can not measure up to the righteous standard the law requires. Which is sadly the “orthodox” view. But, Rom.3:23 is referring to falling short of faith in Jesus. Because knowing Jesus is the standard all have fallen short of. Not law-keeping. So what they are really saying is that everyone is under the law and expected to keep it. Whether they are a believer in Jesus or not. But, if this is true then Paul was wrong in stating that the law is not for the righteous man, right?

The hope of glory | Jesus my 1st love | Pinterest

This is what Paul meant when he wrote that these oppose themselves in 2Tim.2:25,26. Saying that those who believe these opposing things to both be true at the same time oppose themselves because they are taken captive by the devil at his will. Can we see where this opposition comes from by looking at where the mistake has been made in understanding what Paul wrote here? We certainly can when we read what Paul wrote in the context of all of his teaching. And if we will believe the plain language Paul used. So let’s look at these and see if we can figure out what it is that Paul was saying here.

When Paul said the law is not for the righteous man he meant exactly what he wrote. So if it is not for the righteous then no saved person is to have anything to do with the law. We are not under it nor are they expected to keep it. Because we are led by something greater than the law written on stones. We are each and every one of us individually led by God Himself. What Paul called “Christ in you the hope of glory”. We are led by the Holy Spirit which is our evidence of being children of God. This means that if we are led by the law, which means to take instruction from the law for what to do in a given set of circumstances, we are not children of God.

This is why Paul said in Rom.7:4 that only by their being “dead to the law” could they bring forth fruit unto God. Because to be led by the law which is the ministration of death written on stones is to reject the leading of the Holy Spirit that is our life in Christ Jesus. To be led by the law is to remain in the covenant where Heb.1 says God “spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets”. To be led by the law written on stones means they are led in “the ministration of condemnation” instead of the love of God shed abroad in their hearts. The condemnation that Paul called “the ministration of death” in 2Cor.3:7-9. Saying

“But if the ministration of death, written and engraved in stones, was glorious so that the children of Israel could not steadfastly behold the face of Moses for the glory of his countenance; which glory was to be done away: How shall not the ministration of the spirit be rather glorious? For if the ministration of condemnation is glory, much more doth the ministration of righteousness exceed in glory.”

The End From The Beginning: Not By Might, Nor By Power, But by my Spirit....

This is why when we think in terms of law-keeping, living by a set of rules that was given to Israel because of her transgressions instead of the leading of the Holy Spirit, we have denied the faith that was once delivered to the saints. A faith that alone can save us. Because the faith once delivered to the saints works by love. Not by penalty. The love of God that is shed abroad in the believer’s heart, not by the laws God gave to Israel, but by the Holy Spirit that indwells the believer from the moment he believes in Jesus as Lord and His resurrection.

This shows that because there is no law for the righteous does not mean that the righteous have no guidance as to their behavior towards God and others. On the contrary, this shows that the righteous are held to even a higher standard. The standard of love defined in 1Cor.13. It’s not just any kind of love. But, the kind of love that sacrifices for another as Christ did for us. This love is expressed in Paul’s description of a husband’s relationship with his wife. About which he says “Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it“. This kind of love goes way beyond anything the law ever told Israel to do. It is the kind of love that caused God to come as a man so that He could join with mankind under death’s power by dying a man’s death. So that by the resurrection He could conquer death for all those who will believe in Him and His resurrection. A kind of love that can only be had when one is dead to the law. Because only then can they be filled with the Holy Spirit who sheds this love abroad in their hearts.

This is why the law is not for a righteous man. Because the righteous man has gone way beyond the childish and very impersonal leading of rules and regulations that are the ministration of death written on stones. He has grown into the “perfect” man that God has called him to be. The mature believer that is led by God Himself in a very personal relationship in which he has learned to love as God does. Who thinks in terms of sacrifice by doing what is best for others. And by submitting his will to God’s will as Jesus did. Because it is only when we have lost our lives for His sake that we gain eternal life through inheritance as children of God by the spiritual birth.

Will you be born of His Spirit so you too can inherit eternal life? The fleshly birth only prepared you for this natural world where death reigns. Will you too be born again by being born of His Spirit? So that as His child you will now have for your inheritance His kingdom that is eternal where there is no death?

Beyond Today -- God is Calling: Will You Answer? - YouTube

If you are reading this God is calling you. He loves you and wants you to know Him. Because knowing Him is this eternal life that provides you with the spirit that makes you God’s child.John17:3. Because while all men are created by God, not all men are born of His Spirit so that they are children of God. It is only those who have come to know Him that is spiritual because knowing Him is to be born of His Spirit. So if you do not know Him, but have now believed that He is Lord and that He has raised from the dead to conquer death for you, then please take the time right now to talk to Him and confess to Jesus that He is Lord of your life. And believe that He has raised from the dead to conquer death for you. If you do believe in Him then tell Him something like this and you will have eternal life:

Dear Jesus, I believe you. Thank you for joining with me in death so that by conquering death by your resurrection I could join with you in eternal life. Thank you that you raised from the dead so that I could raise from the dead too by trusting in, clinging to, and relying solely on you. Thank you for giving me a new spirit now Lord so that I can live with you in your kingdom forever. In Jesus’ name, amen.

By praying a prayer similar to this one and really meaning it from your heart you have been saved from death to life. From sin to righteousness. And from the wrath to peace with God. And now as you begin reading the Bible and believing what it plainly says it will begin to change the way you think and believe. Because when you trust in Jesus you leave the old life behind where you were only able to relate to and trust in what has been made. And now will be equipped for God’s kingdom because you are no longer only natural flesh and blood, but are a new creature made a spiritual being ready to inherit God’s spiritual kingdom. It is because of Jesus’ resurrection that He is the only WAY, THE TRUTH, AND THE LIFE. Because only Jesus has broken through the wall of death that the flesh and blood natural body can never get through. And only by the new birth are we made ready to receive the spiritual body that can go through the wall of death as Jesus’ did first so we could follow Him in the way He has prepared for us.

God Bless you in your new life in Christ.
