Who had acquired richly laden tables by cheating, perverting justice and crushing the poor, you will lose everything you have.....

Amos 5:7-13  There are those who turn justice into bitterness and cast righteousness to the ground. 8 He who made the Pleiades and Orion, who turns midnight into dawn and darkens day into night, who calls for the waters of the sea and pours them out over the face of the land— the LORD is his name. 9 With a blinding flash, he destroys the stronghold and brings the fortified city to ruin. 10 There are those who hate the one who upholds justice in court and detests the one who tells the truth. 11 You levy a straw tax on the poor and impose a tax on their grain. Therefore, though you have built stone mansions, you will not live in them; though you have planted lush vineyards, you will not drink their wine. 12 I know how many are your offenses and how great your sins. There are those who oppress the innocent and take bribes and deprive the poor of justice in the courts. 13 Therefore the prudent keep quiet in such times, for the times are evil.

Times seem to be getting worse and worse with good increasingly called evil and evil called good. (Isaiah 5:20. Ecclesiastes 8:11) However, times have been similarly bad before in history. (Ecclesiastes 1:9,10. Ecclesiastes 7:10)

Those who call evil good and good evil are as good as dead, who turn darkness into light and light into darkness, who turn bitter into sweet and sweet into bitter. (Isaiah 5:20)

When a sentence is not executed at once against a crime, the human heart is encouraged to do evil. (Ecclesiastes 8:11)

Do not say, "Why were the old days better than these days?" for it is not wise to ask that. (Ecclesiastes 7:10)

Is there anything about which someone can say, "Look at this! It is new!"? It was already done long ago, before our time. (Ecclesiastes 1:9-10)

Amos 5:16-17  Therefore this is what the Lord, the LORD God Almighty, says: “There will be wailing in all the streets and cries of anguish in every public square. The farmers will be summoned to weep and the mourners to wail. 17 There will be wailing in all the vineyards, for I will pass through your midst,” says the LORD.

 Evil men plot against the godly and viciously attack them.  The Lord laughs in disgust at them, for he knows that their day is coming.  Evil men draw their swords and prepare their bows, to bring down the oppressed and needy, and to slaughter those who are godly.  Their swords will pierce their own hearts, and their bows will be broken.  The little bit that a godly man owns is better than the wealth of many evil men,  for evil men will lose their power, but the LORD sustains the godly.  The LORD watches over the innocent day by day and they possess a permanent inheritance.  They will not be ashamed when hard times come; when famine comes they will have enough to eat.  But evil men will die; the LORD's enemies will be incinerated– they will go up in smoke.  Evil men borrow but do not repay their debt, but the godly show compassion and are generous.  Surely those favored by the LORD will possess the land, but those rejected by him will be wiped out.  

The godly speak wise words and promote justice.  The law of their God controls their thinking; their feet do not slip.  Evil men set an ambush for the godly and try to kill them.  But the LORD does not surrender the godly or allow them to be condemned in a court of law.  Rely on the LORD! Obey his commands! Then he will permit you to possess the land; you will see the demise of evil men.  I have seen ruthless evil men growing in influence like a green tree grows in its native soil.  But then one passes by, and suddenly they have disappeared! I looked for them, but they could not be found.  Take note of the one who has integrity! Observe the godly! For the one who promotes peace has a future.  Sinful rebels are totally destroyed; evil men have no future.  But the LORD delivers the godly; he protects them in times of trouble.  The LORD helps them and rescues them; he rescues them from evil men and delivers them, for they seek his protection.   (Psalms 37:1-40

Usually, the Lord doth no great thing for or against his people, without giving warning of it before it comes.

They perverted justice among themselves (v. 7): "You turn judgment to wormwood, that is, you make your administrations of justice bitter and nauseous, and highly displeasing both to God and man.’’ That fruit has become a weed, a weed in the garden; as nothing is more venerable, nothing more valuable, than justice duly administered, so nothing is more hurtful, nothing more abominable, than designedly doing wrong under color and pretense of doing right. Corruptio optimi est pessima —The best, when corrupted, becomes the worst.

It is impossible to find anyone in the Bible who was a power for God who did not have enemies and was not hated.

8 We are hard-pressed on every side, yet not crushed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; 9 persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed— 10 always carrying about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our body. 11 For we who live are always delivered to death for Jesus’ sake, that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our mortal flesh.

Something happened in the lives of the disciples. Something big. Something transformational. Something changed their lives forever.

“And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”Amen.” (Matthew 28:18-20)

A Fisherman became a missionary. A tax collector became a teacher. A small group of disciples, hiding in fear behind locked doors, began boldly telling the story of Jesus in the marketplace and the public square. Why?

Was it because Jesus told them to do it? Was it out of obligation or a sense of duty?

No! It was because of the power of Jesus, His resurrection, and the personal transformations they saw in their own lives, that the disciples felt compelled to share it with others.

The disciples could not keep it for themselves. Nothing mattered to them more than sharing the story, living the Jesus way, and becoming part of the community of love, grace, and peace.

The disciples had a deep sense of the continuing presence of Jesus in their lives and in their newfound followers of Jesus. They lived with God’s presence, power, and provision in their lives.

So they shared the story of Jesus to the world.

The disciples gathered for worship and wrote down their stories to help teach others. They shared what they had with each other. They welcomed and disciplined new people. They made deep personal sacrifices. They became the living Body of Christ for the good of the world.

Certainly, there is nothing wrong with duty, obligation, or responsibility. But what happens when people take these Great Commission Bible verses to heart?

You see something totally different. You see Believers act like those first disciples. They are motivated by love, not an obligation. They are filled with gratitude and joy. They have a passion for connecting with new people, and a willingness to do anything to see that happen.

Take a moment and picture yourself on that mountain top. You are there. Jesus speaks personally to you, both the challenge to go and the promise that He will go with you. Your willingness to follow Jesus and to carry the Good News into the world remains God’s only plan.

Will you carry the Good News of Jesus into the world?

“Heavenly Father, I read in Your Word in today’s Bible verse how all authority has been given to Jesus in heaven and on earth. You have told me to go and share this Good News with others. I desire to be part of this end time harvest of souls, and in praying for those who are lost. I know I am In Jesus and I have Your Holy Spirit to lead and guide me. As I submit to Your leading, I will be used by You. I will be a living part of the Body of Christ for the good of the world. Heavenly Father, use me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
