The U.S. government won an appeal in a British court over the extradition of Wikileaks founder Julian Assange, with the ruling representing a major setback in his fight to avoid being handed over to U.S. authorities to face espionage charges. U.S. authorities accuse Australian-born Assange, 50, of 18 counts relating to WikiLeaks’ release of vast troves of confidential U.S. military records and diplomatic cables which they said had put lives in danger.

Assange’s supporters paint him as an anti-establishment savior that’s been persecuted by the United States for bringing to light US wrongdoings and double-dealing across the world from Afghanistan and Iraq to Washington.

The High Court in London ruled on Dec. 10 that assurances given by U.S. authorities were sufficient to guarantee that Assange, who has been charged in the United States for his role in publishing classified military and diplomatic cables, would be treated humanely.

Assange’s fiancée, Stella Moris said his legal team would appeal the decision.

“How can it be fair, how can it be right, how can it be possible, to extradite Julian to the very country which plotted to kill him?” she said. “We will appeal this decision at the earliest possible moment.”

Supporters of Assange congregated outside of the court after the ruling, shouting “free Julian Assange” and “no extradition”. They tied hundreds of yellow ribbons to the court’s gates and held up placards saying “journalism is not a crime”.

Judge Holroyde said the case must now be remitted to Westminster Magistrates’ Court with the direction judges send it to the British government to decide whether or not Assange should be extradited.

Assange, who denies any wrongdoing, started out as a teenage hacker with the nickname Mendax – a classical Latin word for “liar” – but a few decades later would expose some of the United States’s darkest secrets.

WikiLeaks came to prominence when it published a US military video in 2010 showing a 2007 attack by Apache helicopters in Baghdad that killed a dozen people, including two Reuters news staff.

It then released thousands of secret classified files and diplomatic cables that laid bare often highly critical US appraisals of world leaders from Russian President Vladimir Putin to members of the Saudi royal family.

Assange jumped bail and was offered refuge in 2012 by Ecuador’s then-president Rafael Correa. He spent seven years holed up at the embassy in London while British police spent millions of dollars watching for any sign that he would emerge.

After relations with Ecuador soured, Assange, with white hair and a long beard, was dragged out by British police.

The US Justice Department said Assange was charged with conspiring with former Army intelligence analyst Chelsea Manning to gain access to a government computer as part of a 2010 leak by WikiLeaks of hundreds of thousands of US military reports about the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq and American diplomatic communications.

US prosecutors and Western security officials regard Assange as a reckless and dangerous enemy of the state whose actions imperiled the lives of sources named in the leaked material.

His admirers have hailed Assange as a hero for exposing what they describe as abuse of power by modern states and for championing free speech.

The government is more than capable of making horrible decisions, and has done so many times. The nature of Julian Assange’s situation is complex but it’s obvious that the U.S. government just wants to cover its tail and make anybody the bad guy but themselves. Everyone is in favor of whistleblowing until they’re the ones being exposed. The conflict of interest associated with Julian’s extradition is staggering and undoubtedly won’t receive the level of backlash required to make any meaningful impact.

The name change, which was announced by Mark Zuckerberg during its virtual reality and augmented reality conference Facebook Connect, aligns with its growing focus on the metaverse, which refers to efforts to combine virtual and augmented reality technologies in a new online realm. “I’ve been thinking a lot about our identity as we begin this next chapter. Facebook is one of the most used products in the history of the world,”

“Today we’re seen as a social media company,” he added, “but in our DNA, we are a company that builds technology to connect people. And the metaverse is the next frontier just like social networking was when we got started.” So this isn’t something that Mark is taking lightly.

Mark stated his awareness that we might not be ready for advanced innovation in these trying times, and instead tries to convince the world that we need to submerge ourselves in an alternate reality to deal with the one around us. “I know that some people will say that this isn’t a time to focus on the future, and I want to acknowledge that there are important issues to work on in the present. There always will be,” Zuckerberg said in a kickoff video ahead of his keynote. “So for many people, I’m just not sure there ever will be a good time to focus on the future. But I also know that there are a lot of you who feel the same way that I do.”

I can tell you without a shadow of a doubt that the pace by which technology is facilitated to the public, is the guiding force behind the process of subduing the population. The perfect storm has been brewing, and it’s going to sideline well over half of society. You’ve been conditioned to subdue yourself and not have a second thought about your basic God given human rights. Now they’re trying to take them from the blind, AND THE BLIND DEFEND THEM! “Let the dead bury their own dead, but you go and proclaim the kingdom of God.” –Luke 9:60

Facebook showed a series of concept videos that displayed its vision for the metaverse, such as sending a holographic image of yourself to a concert with a friend attending in real life, sitting around virtual meeting tables with remote colleagues or playing immersive games with friends. It’s important to point out that the Metaverse was an idea that the public came up with, and now facebook is attempting to claim the entire market with their name alone. Of course, Mark has the money and the resources to make it much faster than the common programmer but we’ve seen what corporate ownership of huge markets can do. (Bezos)

Mark says: “Your devices won’t be the focal point of your attention anymore,” he said. “We’re starting to see a lot of these technologies coming together in the next five or 10 years. A lot of this is going to be mainstream and a lot of us will be creating and inhabiting worlds that are just as detailed and convincing as this one, on a daily basis.”

So, Christians need to ask themselves where they choose to draw the line. The technologies we have come to create as a civilization are obviously interfering with religious doctrine. I will kindly decline Mark’s offer to get “lost” in another world. Because most of us haven’t even oriented ourselves properly to move forward in their walk with God. Stay inquisitive in the word of God, and the world around you.
