UPDATE 2: The Dallas Morning News reports that the person critically wounded in the White Settlement church shooting has died. This brings the death toll to two innocents. The gunman was also killed.

UPDATE: CNN reports that the White Settlement, Texas, church gunman is among the two killed in Sunday’s shooting. NBC News reports that the other fatality was a congregant shot by the gunman, and another person was critically wounded by the gunman as well.

DFW.CBS Local reports that the alleged gunman entered the church, walked up toward the front, and opened fire just before 10 a.m.

A church member who serves on the church security shot the alleged gunman.

NBC Fort Worth reports that two people were killed and another person was injured.

When I was growing up, I never imagined that someone might come into my church and start shooting, but over the last several decades we have seen such a scenario play out numerous times.  Just check out this list of fatal church shootings that have happened since Columbine…

Gov. Greg Abbott released a statement on the incident, expressing sorrow for the loss of life and expressing gratitude for the good guy with a gun who took action to end the attack, saying, “Our hearts go out to the victims and families of those killed in the evil act of violence that occurred at the West Freeway Church of Christ. Places of worship are meant to be sacred, and I am grateful for the church members who acted quickly to take down the shooter and help prevent further loss of life.”

In addition to these incidents at Christian churches, fatal shootings have happened at other religious sites, including at a Benedictine monastery, a Sikh temple, and an Amish school.

Deadly incidents are on the rise at churches, says Carl Chinn, a church security expert. According to his research, there had never been a mass murder (four or more killed) associated with a faith-based property before 1963. Since then, there have been 14 such incidents.

As of last year, Chinn identified 617 people having been killed in deadly force incidents since 1999 at faith-based properties, including churches.

Despite these numbers, many churches do not make security a priority.

Christian persecution is on the rise all over the world, and it is likely to intensify greatly in the years ahead.

But of course most of the time the mainstream media attempts to ignore this growing trend as much as possible.  When there are spectacular attacks with large numbers of deaths like we just witnessed in Sri Lanka they will cover the story, but other than that they try very hard to avoid any stories that would put Christians in a sympathetic light.

They can try to ignore what is happening all they want, but it doesn’t change the fact that hatred for the Christian faith is growing, and what we have been witnessing in recent weeks is just the beginning. Source

Report: Two Dead in Texas Church Shooting, Armed Member Shoots Suspected, Gunman

Dec. 29 (UPI) — Two people were slain and another is in critical condition after a shooting during a service at a Christian church in a suburb in Fort Worth, Texas, on Sunday morning.

The shooting occurred at the West Freeway Church in White Settlement, The Dallas Morning News reported. White Settlement is a city in Tarrant County with a population of 16,116 at the 2010 census.

One of the victims is believed to be the suspect.

MedStar spokeswoman Macara Trusty confirmed that one person died at the scene of the shooting and one person died en route to a hospital. The third person was listed in critical condition.

Fort Worth Fire Department sent out an “active threat” assignment about 11:30 a.m. to assist White Settlement police and fire.

The gunman walked up to a server during communion with a shotgun and then opened fire, Isabel Arreola told KTVT-TV.

Another church member shot the suspect, according to the witness.

“It was the scariest thing. You feel like your life is flashing before you. I was so worried about my little one,” Arreola said.

Sunday’s service was live-streamed on YouTube but the video that showed the shooting has since been made private.

Two years ago, Devin Kellen opened fire inside another Texas church killing 26 people and wounding more than 20 others before he shot himself to death. It occurred at First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs, which is 280 miles south of Fort Worth.
