Watchman: Until Congress provides the necessary funds for Ukraine and Israel, Biden and his administration have no plans to close the border. Their prior strategies and reliance on particular tactics during the Obama/Biden era appear to have influenced this strategy.

As Republican governors rallied support in Texas, President Biden reiterated his commitment to securing the southern US border. However, he emphasized that this would only happen if Congress passes a bipartisan bill that includes funding for Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan. According to Obama Via Biden’s comments, which useless Fox News’ Chad Pergram reported, “If that bill were the law today, I would take immediate action to address border security and swiftly implement a bipartisan solution that benefits America and addresses the flaws in our immigration system, ensuring efficient access for deserving individuals.”

However, as numerous individuals have highlighted, Biden has the ability to take action immediately without relying on Congress or the bill.

As we mentioned yesterday, House Speaker Mike Johnson refuted the claim, stating that President Biden’s assertion that he requires Congress to pass a new law in order to close the southern border is false, as he is aware of the truth.

“As I previously conveyed to him in a letter last year and have consistently emphasized to him on numerous occasions since, it is imperative for him to promptly take executive action to rectify the dire situation he has caused,” Johnson continued.

Last week, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) responded to a Monday ruling by the Supreme Court regarding the removal of razor wire that the state had installed along the US-Mexico border. The ruling allows the Biden administration to proceed with the removal while a broader lawsuit over the wire is ongoing. Interestingly, Texas took action by implementing additional razor wire.

“The Texas National Guard remains steadfast in their duty in Eagle Pass,” Abbott posted on Tuesday morning, emphasizing that “Texas will persist in our endeavors to fortify the border in Biden’s absence.”

Congress will spring into action. It’s all politics.

Instead of pressuring Biden to take immediate action to secure the border, a group of lawmakers from both parties seem to be more interested in capitalizing on the situation for their own benefit. According to CBS News, they are currently in discussions with the Biden administration about potentially implementing extensive border controls.

After weeks of confidential discussions, the White House and a group of senators may soon announce an agreement, according to anonymous sources familiar with the matter. The bill aims to address the significant increase in unauthorized border crossings observed on the southern border over the past three years.

Although GOP Sen. James Lankford, Democratic Sen. Chris Murphy, and independent Sen. Kyrsten Sinema are nearing the completion of a compromise with the White House, any bipartisan immigration proposal would encounter significant challenges in the House. Speaker Mike Johnson and other conservative lawmakers in the House have been advocating for even more stringent alterations to the asylum system.

The agreement would grant the executive branch additional legal power to temporarily halt asylum in specific regions once migrant crossings exceed a certain threshold in Arizona, California, New Mexico, and Texas. When this authority is invoked, individuals who have entered the country illegally will be promptly deported to Mexico or their home country, unless they meet the criteria to remain based on screenings for ‘humanitarian refuge.’

The bipartisan rule still permits a significant number of migrant crossings on a daily basis, with an average of 5,000 per day or even reaching 8,500 in a single day, before any action would be required. So, there would still be a significant number of unauthorized border crossings allowed each month.
