What Does The Bible Say Really Happened In The Garden?

That’s what the prophets said, right? Yes, that’s what they said. But, you never see them saying it is for the forgiveness of the sin of Adam, do you? Of course not. Because they never said that men are held accountable for another’s sins. In fact, Ez.18:20 says that it is only the soul that sinneth that shall die. And that the son will not bear the iniquity of the father.

Here is an enumerated list of what the Bible plainly says of the events in the garden.
From Gen.1:26-30
1. God made man in His image and likeness.
2. God made them male and female.
3. God made them with free will and dominion on earth over what He made. And told them to be fruitful and multiply and subdue the earth.
From Gen.2:7-
4. God made their bodies from the dust.
5. God breathed the breath of life into their nostrils.
6. From these two parts, they became a living soul.
7. God placed the man in a garden He had made and furnished with plants for them to eat.
8. God told them that they were to eat from all the trees in the garden except for one. And that if they ate from the tree He told them not to eat from lest they die, on that day they would surely die.
From Gen.3-
9. The serpent was in the Garden.
10. The serpent tempted Eve.
11. After Eve considered what God and the serpent told her she ate the fruit and gave it to the man that was with her and he ate.

12. After they ate their eyes were opened and they saw that they were naked.
13. After seeing they were naked they made aprons of leaves and covered themselves with them.
14. When they heard God calling for them they hid .15. When God asked them why they hid from Him Adam said it was because they saw that they were naked so they hid from God because they were afraid.
16. God asked him if it was because he ate the fruit He had told them not to eat lest they die that Adam knew he was naked.
17. Adam told God that the woman He gave to her gave him the fruit and he ate.
18. God asked the woman why she ate from the fruit. The woman told God that it was because the serpent beguiled her that she ate.
19. God instructed the serpent that because he did this he was now cursed.
20. God instructed the woman that she would have more pain in childbirth. And that enmity would be between her seed and the serpent’s seed. And that the serpent would bruise its heel. And that her seed would crush the serpents head.
21. God instructed Adam that because the ground was now cursed he would reap from the ground only by the sweat of his brow.
22. God made them coats of animal skins to wear.
23. God says that because they had “become as one of us to know good and evil” that He blocked the way for them to the tree of life so that they would no longer eat from the tree of life and continue to live forever. Thus fulfilling God’s instructions that on the day that they ate from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil “ye shall surely die”. Or as the Hebrew states it, “dying ye shall die”.

These are the events in the garden that show us what the purpose is concerning the events in the garden for the atonement. In these we see nothing said of a change in nature in either Adam or Eve. We do not see God curse them. He only says the serpent and the ground are cursed. We see nothing said of a need for forgiveness for their sin. We only see God making good on His word that on the day they eat thereof they shall surely die. 
But, you might be thinking the atonement is said to be for the forgiveness of sins.

That’s what the prophets said, right? Yes, that’s what they said. But, you never see them saying it is for the forgiveness of the sin of Adam, do you? Of course not. Because they never said that men are held accountable for another’s sins. In fact, Ez.18:20 says that it is only the soul that sinneth that shall die. In confirmation, Paul plainly said in regard to the sin of Adam and the rest of mankind before the law, “For until the law sin was in the world. But sin is not imputed when there is no law”.Rom.5:13. This means that until the law came through Moses God did not impute men’s sins to them. The reason for this is explained in Rom.4:15. Paul says here that it is “Because the law worketh wrath: for where no law is, there is no transgression.” And again in Acts17:30. “And the times of this ignorance God winked at, but now commandeth all men everywhere to repent”

See what has happened because people don’t believe what the Bible plainly says? But, instead, take someone else’s word for what it means? They force into the scriptures what they never say. Making Adam responsible for all mankind going to hell by inheritance and imputation. When none of the prophets and apostles ever taught any such thing. But, in fact, taught just the opposite.

For it to be true that men go to hell because of Adam’s sin the imputation of Adam’s sin upon the rest of mankind must have happened. And nature had to be inherited from Adam that rules man’s choices so that he must sin. But, as we see in Paul’s explanation of these events in Rom.5, mainline teaching in the churches notwithstanding, none of that is true. Paul, Jesus, and the prophets place the blame for anyone going to hell squarely where it belongs. On the person who by their own free will rejects Jesus’ offer of eternal life. Because only by Paul being wrong about this can sin from Adam to Moses be imputed to anyone.

If you are reading this God is calling you. He loves you and wants you to know Him. Because knowing Him is eternal life.John17:3. So if you do not know Him please take the time right now to pray and confess Jesus as Lord of your life. And believe that He has raised from the dead. In doing this and really meaning it you will be saved from death to life. From sin to righteousness. And from the wrath to peace with God. Because you have left the old life behind where you trusted in idols, and have now trusted in Jesus.
