In 1John1:9 John says that when Israelites confess their sins Jesus is faithful and just to forgive their sins and cleanse them from all unrighteousness. In Heb.9:15 we read that Jesus “is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance.” And in 2 Cor.5:21 we read “For he hath made him be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.”

Weekly Verse (2 Corinthians 5:21) | Cornerstone Church

So the question is since for those who have believed in Jesus all sin has been forgiven and cleansed, and the transgressions under the law were all redeemed by the death of Christ, and we are righteous in Christ, why do men still die? I mean, Heb.9:13 says that the blood of bulls and goats purified to the cleansing of the flesh, right? So if the reason men die since Adam is because it is the penalty for sin as so many teachers, even misusing Rom.6:23 “the wages of sin is death” in support of this claim, then why when all sin is cleansed and redeemed do all men still die? Can you see the contradiction here? Let God be true and every man a liar as we take an objective look into the scriptures to clear up this seeming contradiction.

First, let’s understand the truth about the relationship the Bible says sin has with death. Paul taught that one type of power sin has come from the practice of sin. Because by practicing it, which is what Paul was referring to in Gal.5:19-21, it gives sin an increasing power in their life that makes them desire it more. This is why the use of the word “lust” is appropriate in regard to sin. Because lust is an over the desire for something. Because while the feeling or sensation one gets from doing what makes the flesh feel good is perfectly fine. When that “very good” desire becomes lust or an over desire men take it out of it’s original God-given context. This is what Paul was teaching when he wrote, “Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts(over desires) thereof.” Rom.6:12. And is what Paul was teaching when he wrote: “For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.”Gal.5:17. Here Paul is showing us that when our “very good” natural desires that were given to us by God are taken out of their intended context this gives sin power.

Now as seductive as Paul said sin is, he shows us that sin is not the fundamental and basic problem that creates man’s need for a savior. Paul says death is. Because Paul says it is death that reigns in Rom.5:14, not sin. And Gen.3:22 shows that death reigns only over the natural body because man has no access to the tree of life. Paul helps us understand how this works by using an illustration of death using sin like a bee uses its stinger by injecting man’s natural desires with the “poison” of “if it feels good do it” that seduces him to make these choices that keep him in subjection to death. But, if we will by our free choose to submit to God’s will as Jesus did in Luke22:42, sin will not reign in our mortal bodies.

Paul writes again in 1Cor.15:56 of the dynamic between death and sin. He says “The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law.” We see here that Paul says that it is from the law that sin derives its power. And that this power acts to condemn us. But, this is not the same power it has to seduce us that we spoke of before. Rather here Paul is referring to the power that the sin death uses to seduce us is given over someone when they are under the law. Because only under the law is sin imputed. Only under the law does God hold them accountable for it. Paul said it this way, “for until the law sin was in the world. But sin is not imputed when there is no law.”Rom.5:13. This means that sin has no power to condemn to hell unless one is under the law. And since only Israel was ever under the law(Eph.2:12) this is why Paul tells Israelites that when they are no longer under the law they are free from sin itself.Rom.6:14. Because they are no longer condemned by it.

For example,

Sex is one of those “very good” things that God made for mankind. But, taken out of the context of a loving and monogamous one man/one woman relationship it becomes sin because it misses the mark that God originally intended it for. Because in such a relationship mankind not only reproduces as God instructed him to in Gen.1:28. But, also learns to love as God does through his relationship with his wife and his children. And since death wants to keep us in its grip it does not want someone to learn this kind of love. Because the kind of love that a Godly marriage induces is the kind of sacrificial love that leads to eternal life(John15:13). Because when we love God singularly as a man and woman do in a Godly marriage we come to know Him which John17:3 says is eternal life. This is why Paul said death uses sin by taking what God said is “very good” out of its original Godly context to keep mankind under its power. And this is the same for all sin. Because sin is missing the mark.

galatians | christine's bible study

And the mark is not the law as so many have been falsely taught. The mark is Jesus. Because a relationship with the law is an impersonal relationship that can not give life (Gal.3:21). This is why a relationship with God can not be built upon law-keeping or works. It must be built upon the same sacrificial love that a man and a woman learn in a Godly marriage. Can you see now how seductive sin is? And how death uses sin as it’s stinger to keep men under its power? This is why I said before that sin is not the basic problem that creates man’s need for a savior. But, that death is.

We now see how death still reigns over the mortal body even after a man is cleansed from all sin(1John1:9). Because until the Israelite has been delivered from the law, and until the Gentile who has never been under the law has turned from idols to faith in Jesus, leave these bodies behind and receive the new body that is not subject to death’s reign, all men still die. Paul was speaking of how Jesus saves us from this death when he wrote,

“And not only they but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.”Rom.8:23. Our redemption which comes at the resurrection delivers us from this body of death to receive the new body after we die. So that having received the immortal body we will die no more.

As we have seen in previous articles here the reason for death’s reign over the natural world is that men no longer have access to the tree of life(Gen.3:22-24) as Adam did while he was in the garden. And we know that this was not a punishment for Adam’s sin because God tells us the reason He sent Adam from the garden was that “the man has become as one of us to know good and evil”. Not because Adam was bad. So death definitely was not a punishment for Adam’s bad behavior.

So realizing that it is death that is man’s most fundamental and basic problem that created his need for a savior, we can now also see why it was only by death that Jesus could save mankind. Because only by entering into death with mankind, and not in our place as so many falsely believe and teach, could Jesus break that power over mankind so we could have the gift of life that Jesus said in John10:10 He came to provide us with. This shows that the naughty/nice paradigm that the “original sin” and “sin nature/necessity” doctrines of Roman Catholicism and evangelical Protestantism are only so much “dung” as Paul said the righteousness that comes from law-keeping/works is in Phil.3:6-9. Saying of himself,

“Concerning zeal, persecuting the church; touching the righteousness which is in the law, blameless.

But what things were gain to me(his righteousness from blameless law-keeping), those I counted loss for Christ.

Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ, And be found in him, not having my own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith: That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death; If by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead.”

Have you believed in Jesus for this righteousness Paul speaks of that alone is eternal life? Have you been born of the Spirit so you can inherit eternal life? If you are reading this God is calling you. He loves you and wants you to know Him. Because knowing Him is eternal life.John17:3. So if you do not know Him please take the time right now to pray and confess Jesus as Lord of your life. And believe that He has raised from the dead. Because by doing this and really meaning it from your heart you will be saved from death to life. From sin to righteousness. And from the wrath to peace with God. Because when you trust in Jesus you leave the old life behind where you were only able to trust in what has been made. And now will be equipped to trust in Jesus who alone can equip you for heaven because by His resurrection He is the only WAY, THE TRUTH, AND THE LIFE.

Life Eternal

Prophecy Unfolding Before Our Eyes in Real-Time

God often uses men who are not of the best moral character. Pharaoh, Nebuchadnezzar, Cyrus, Herod, and Trump (amongst others), to accomplish His will in events He orchestrates during human history. We either trust the sovereignty of God or we don’t. Nothing happens apart from Him…

The best index to a person’s character is how he treats people who can’t do him any good, and how he treats people who can’t fight back…

The Birth Pains Are Growing Stronger….

One of the signs of ruling class collapse is when they can no longer enforce the rules that maintain them as a ruling class. When the Romans started making exceptions to republican governance, it was a matter of time before someone simply decided the rules no longer applied to them. Perhaps the robot historians will consider Obama our Marius or Sulla. Maybe that person is in the near future. Either way, the rule of law is over and what comes next is the rule of men.

  2. We are hard-pressed on every side, yet not crushed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; 9. persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed— 10. always carrying about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our body. 11. For we who live are always delivered to death for Jesus’ sake, that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our mortal flesh.

The Jesuit, classified as having a reprobate mind, they have some knowledge of God and perhaps know of His commandments. However, they live impure lives and have very little desire to please God. Those who have reprobate minds live corrupt and selfish lives. Sin is justified and acceptable to them.
