Featured Story

In Rom.4 we read that “Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness.” These words from the apostle Paul reveal why God said Abraham, and not Moses, would be the “father of many nations”. It is so that it would by faith, and not by works, that the promise of eternal life is received. A faith that joins men to God by love because Paul said in Gal.5:6 that this kind of faith only works by love. Apart from this kind of faith there is no eternal life.

Moses trusted the Father as Abraham had. But, his calling was different because through him God would bring the imputation of sin for the Israelites because it was determined by God that He would bring the Messiah through their bloodline. This is why they alone were the recipients of this covenant with God. And they alone in all of history were the ones required to keep it.

The law for Israel was added by God for the express purpose of keeping the bloodline purely human through which Messiah would be born. Paul alludes to this in Gal.3:19 saying “Wherefore then serveth the law? It was added because of transgressions, till the seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was ordained by angels in the hand of a mediator.”

This imputation of sin that many times brought the penalty of death was necessary as a deterrent for Israel to keep them from being drawn into practicing the idolatries of the nations around them. Idolatries by which their bloodline would be contaminated with DNA that was not human as Gen.6 says happened in Noah’s day.

Because this would then make it impossible to for Messiah to come through their bloodline. Because unless Jesus was fully human in every way just as we are then He could never represent us in death as Heb.2:14,15 says He did. So this is why it was necessary for God to give Israel, and no one else, a covenant of works to go along with the faith of Abraham they already possessed.

This is why John told the Israelites he was teaching in 2John that if they deny that Jesus came in the same flesh all men have they were denying the doctrine of Christ. And that those who deny the doctrine of Christ have not God. And in 1John4:1-3 he told them that denying that Jesus came in the same flesh all men have is of the spirit of antichrist.

Believe not every spirit, but try the spirits if they are ...

But, Abraham’s covenant had no such restrictions. No works that needed to be performed or sacrifices that needed to be done for forgiveness of sins. Why? Because Paul plainly taught in Rom.5:13, “For until the law sin was in the world. But sin is not imputed when there is no law”.

So Abraham’s was a covenant made between him and God wherein Abraham’s only participation was that he believed God for righteousness. Not one work was required of him to enter into or be a part of this covenant. And because he did believe God he was reckoned righteous.

Any works Abraham may have done were ones that followed after he was called righteous by God and were not a requirement to be in covenant with God. And this righteousness that is by faith without works made the promise sure for Abraham and to his seed. So that now when we believe Jesus as Abraham believed the Father, our covenant with God is also made sure.

This means that if you will trust the Father as Abraham did then you too can have the gift of eternal life paid for by Jesus. Paid for by His willingness to submit to the Father’s will. By His trusting the Father as Abraham did. To lay down His life by joining with mankind in our death. So that we could join with Him in eternal life.

This is why Heb.2:14-18 says that Jesus was of the seed of Abraham. And not the seed of Moses. Because Abraham is of the promise. While the covenant that came by Moses is of works. And it is our trust in Jesus without works that makes us of the seed of Abraham as well. In Gal.2:16 Paul calls this “the faith of Christ”. And says that only by this faith can a man be justified. Adding that by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.

If you believe in Jesus and have confessed Him as Lord. And have believed in your heart that He has raised from the dead. You have eternal life. Pray a prayer of thanksgiving with me now if you have done this.

Dear Jesus, thank you for joining with me in death. So that I can join with you in eternal life. I confess you as Lord. And I believe you have raised from the dead. Conquering death so that I can have life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Now read the Bible and believe what it plainly says. Don’t let the devil trick you into believing anything else. And the Holy Spirit will lead you into all truth.

See you there or in the air!
