WHY IS SNOPES TARGETING THE CHRISTIAN SATIRE SITE, THE BABYLON BEE, AGAIN, “THE TIME OF JACOB’S TROUBLE”

The phrase “the time of Jacob’s trouble” is a quote from Jeremiah 30:7 which says, “Alas! for that day is great, so that none is like it: it is even the time of Jacob’s trouble, but he shall be saved out of it” (KJV).

In the previous verses of Jeremiah 30, we find that the Lord is speaking to Jeremiah the prophet about Judah and Israel (30:3-4). In verse 3, the Lord promises that one day in the future, He will bring both Judah and Israel back to the land that He had promised their forefathers. Verse 5 describes a time of great fear and trembling. Verse 6 describes this time in a way that pictures men going through the pains of childbirth, again indicating a time of agony. But there is hope for Judah and Israel, for though this is called “the time of Jacob’s distress” (NASB), the Lord promises He will save Jacob (referring to Judah and Israel) out of this time of great trouble (verse 7).

Left-leaning fact-checking website Snopes has doubled down on its monitoring of Christian satire site The Babylon Bee even after receiving heavy mockery for dedicating resources to covering a website that creates comedic stories.

Last week, Snopes published a study claiming websites like The Bee are “a problem for democracy” because “understanding online political satire isn’t easy.” Interestingly, the left-leaning website had not in years past suggested the same about The Onion, which, much like The Bee, posts satirical news stories.

Snopes has this week unveiled a new fact-check designation, “labeled satire,” which the outlet said denotes a claim “derived from content described by its creator and/or the wider audience as satire.”

The fact-checking website claimed it has specifically targeted The Bee because it contained “the most shared factually inaccurate content in almost every survey we conducted.” That, of course, makes sense, given the website is entirely satirical.

Those at The Bee have been particularly concerned about Snopes’ characterization of their website because of the fact-checkers relationship with Facebook, which hired Snopes to help the social media site weed out “fake news.” If The Bee is repeatedly labeled “false” — despite being satirical — it could result in Facebook de-platforming the comedy website.

As a result, The Bee recently announced it had hired a legal team.

The Bee is certainly not backing down, posting a lengthy statement to Facebook this week explaining the current situation:

Their explanation of this rating says the label “satire” is often misapplied to content that doesn’t really qualify as satire — and Snopes has made it clear that they feel our content falls into that category. From their view, we’re just pretenders, using the label “satire” to our advantage so we can hoodwink the masses. It’s really extraordinary, especially since they’ve acknowledged in private communication with us that there is a “clear distinction” between our satire and intentionally misleading fake news. For some reason, they refuse to acknowledge the clear distinction in their published articles.

Of course, the writers and editors over at The Bee are having a little fun with the situation, too. Because that’s what satire writers do.

The Bee shared an article earlier this week, “Snopes Rates Babylon Bee World’s Most Accurate News Source,” a satirical post the site actually published in 2017 when Snopes first started going after the Christian outlet.

I’m sure it will only be a matter of time before Snopes will feel compelled to fact-check that story, too. Source

For the past half-century, there has been, in America, an increasing push to privatize religion. The courts have reaffirmed the desires of the ACLU, Americans United for the Separation of Church and State, American Atheists, and others, to see all vestiges of public expressions of faith eradicated. What you want to believe in your own personal little heart about God, or the tooth fairy, or whatever you want to call Him or it, is between you and your god. But don’t bring it into the public square.

Systematically, Bible distribution in schools, public displays of the Ten Commandments, nativity scenes on public property, and public prayers in Jesus’ name are all being removed by a left-leaning, black-robed oligarchy.

It goes beyond mere privatization, however. Now, there is even a desire to move into the realm of regulating moral conscience. Atheist leader, Richard Dawkins, has suggested that it is child abuse to teach your children to believe the tenets of Christianity as being objectively true.

Many evangelical leaders in America have predicted the coming of religious persecution in America. In his 2014 inauguration speech as President of the National Religious Broadcaster’s convention, Jerry Johnson predicted a move against freedom of speech in Christian broadcasting, on the basis of supposed, “Hate Speech” legislation.

At a national homeschooling leadership conference in Chicago in 2010, Dr. Erwin Lutzer, former pastor of the historic Moody Church in Chicago told the audience they should encourage Christian homeschooling parents they serve to teach their children about the history of religious persecution as a part of their education. Dr. Lutzer has authored a book entitled “When a Nation Forgets God: 7 Lessons We Must Learn from Nazi Germany.” Author and radio host Eric Metaxas describes the book this way: “It clearly and powerfully explains what the parallels are between Germany’s fall from grace and the beginning of our own fall.”

Christian leaders like Dr. Albert Mohler, Russell Moore, and others, and even former U.S. Supreme Court Justice Anthony Scalia have suggested the possible threat to religious liberty posed by the SCOTUS’ decision on same-sex marriage. What happens if a Christian college or seminary is required by law to allow same-sex dating on campus?

We’ve already seen nationally televised court cases regarding Christians who have refused to bake wedding cakes for same-sex couples, or Christian county clerks who refused to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples.

The people spreading concrete information on the dangers of globalism are accomplishing far more than those sitting around buying bitcoin or passing around Q-cult nonsense.
