Daily Struggles

Psalms 37:4-5, 7 4Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart. 5Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him and he will do this:… 7Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him; do not fret when men succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes.

In this psalm, David reflects on how those who plotted against him and threatened his life ultimately failed. He reveals the secret to his success and his usefulness to God. If you’re dealing with people who mean you harm, listen to David’s advice.

Find your joy in the LORD. When your deepest hopes and greatest happiness are rooted in God, He will fulfill your desires. This promise has a double meaning: it could mean God will satisfy your longing to know Him more and grow closer to Him, making your adversaries contend with God Himself. Or, it could mean God transforms your heart so that your desires align with His own. In truth, both interpretations are valid.

By dedicating your actions to God and walking in His ways, seeking what He desires, you can trust God to bring these things to pass. This causes your enemies concern while turning your anxiety into joy and unwavering trust. God’s power supports the commitment of your heart, reshaping you from the inside out.

Instead of worrying or getting worked up, choose to be still and patient before God. Don’t act without seeking His guidance—when you move in step with Him, success follows. This peace assures you that even the wickedest schemes can ultimately work for your good, and your steadfast trust in God will be vindicated in the end.

Reflection: Facing trouble today? Find delight in the LORD, dedicate your path to Him, and wait patiently for His direction.

Prayer: Lord,
Help me to find my joy in You and to trust Your plan in every circumstance. Give me patience to wait for Your direction, and let my heart desire what You desire. Thank You for Your faithfulness and peace. Amen.
