Three major public sector unions are contesting federal COVID-19 vaccination regulations for government employees, claiming that forcing unvaccinated people to work from home is “unjust.” The Liberal government’s mandatory vaccination policy, which went into effect on Oct. 6, 2021, required all federal workers, even those working remotely, to be fully vaccinated with two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine. Workers who refused to get completely vaccinated or who refused to reveal their vaccination status would be placed on paid leave. The Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) filed a policy grievance on behalf of public servants who were placed on leave without pay due to these vaccine policies in late March, claiming that the policies “constituted an abuse of management authority” because remote workers are unlikely to return to physical workplaces in the long run, posing “no reasonable threat to the…
