U.S and G7 Summit Partners Endorse ‘Global Network Approach’ To Pandemic Preparedness And Prevention.

The U.S and its G7 allies recently signed an agreement to improve pandemic preparedness, focusing on “collaborative surveillance” and “predictable quick reaction.” Health Minister Jean-Yves Duclos met with G7 colleagues in Berlin, Germany, on May 19 and 20 to explore ways to “advance a global network strategy to boost pandemic monitoring and response skills and capacities.” Germany, Canada, France, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, the United States, and the European Union make up the G7, an informal meeting of seven countries. The G7 accord, issued on May 20, stated, “We intend to cultivate an upgraded network for pandemic preparation with regional and national nodes on all continents.” The health ministers said that the globe is still “insufficiently” prepared for future pandemics, and that improving preparation is vital for a speedier response to outbreaks.
