More research into COVID-19 vaccine-related tinnitus is needed, according to a group of experts that analyzed the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS). Up till Sept. 14, 2021, over 12,247 cases of COVID-19 post-vaccination tinnitus were documented in a paper published in the March edition of the “Annals of Medicine and Surgery.” According to the Mayo Clinic, tinnitus is a condition in which one hears ringing or other disturbances in one or both ears that are not external sounds. It affects 15 to 20% of the population. “To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study to look at any otologic manifestations after vaccine delivery, with the goal of determining the potential pathophysiology, clinical approach, and therapy.” “Despite the rarity of vaccine-associated tinnitus, there is a need to study the specific processes and therapy,” the researchers added.
