California senators rejected a bill on March 15 that would have eliminated Gov. Gavin Newsom’s emergency powers, which he has been using for almost two years. The motion, Senate Concurrent Resolution 5, was defeated by eight members of the California Senate Committee on Governmental Organization. There were four members that voted in favor. If passed, the bill would remove the state of emergency declared by Newsom, a Democrat, on March 4, 2020.
