Discord Faces Legal Action From Texas Attorney General Over Child Abuse Claims
Ken Paxton, the attorney general of Texas, has sued the messaging software Discord, claiming that it facilitates the exploitation of children by those who would pose as child safety advocates.
Discord advertises itself as a place where people can feel safe, connected, and part of a community. Lawsuits challenging the matter were lodged in the District Court of Collin County, Texas on May 22.
Discord has created and continues to maintain one of the most effective platforms online for child predatory conduct, grooming, and manipulation, all hidden under transparency and safety pages. Discord did it on purpose, with full awareness, and for financial gain.
Bad actors can easily find susceptible consumers, gain trust rapidly, and stay hidden from public view because of the design decisions made on the communications platform, according to the complaint.
