Houston Methodist Hospital Suspends Doctor’s Privileges After She Voices Concerns Over Vaccine Mandates.

A Texas hospital announced that it has suspended the privileges of a doctor who posted concerns on social media about COVID-19 vaccine mandates and suggested that ivermectin may be able to treat the virus.

Dr. Mary Bowden, an ear, nose, and throat doctor at Houston Methodist Hospital, posted what was called “dangerous misinformation” that’s “not based in science” about the virus, the hospital announced on Twitter. The firm didn’t elaborate on the so-called misinformation and didn’t explain how her social media claims aren’t scientifically factual.

“Dr. Mary Bowden, who recently joined the medical staff at Houston Methodist Hospital, is using her social media accounts to express her personal and political opinions about the COVID-19 vaccine and treatments,” Houston Methodist, which drew national headlines for becoming one of the first hospital systems in the United States to mandate vaccines for all its employees earlier in 2021, wrote on Twitter.

Patty Muck, a spokesperson for the hospital, confirmed to media outlets over the weekend that Bowden’s privileges were suspended.

“The physician’s privileges at Houston Methodist have been suspended,” Muck wrote in an email to the Washington Post.

When contacted by The Epoch Times, a separate spokesperson for the hospital sent a statement that echoed several of its Twitter posts. The spokesperson didn’t elaborate on the suspension.

Last week, Bowden wrote on her Twitter account that “vaccine mandates are wrong” and included a screenshot of a message that apparently came from an individual who told her that “what the government is doing to its citizens in the United States is incomprehensible.” She also used her account to suggest that the anti-parasitic drug ivermectin may be able to treat COVID-19 symptoms.

In recent weeks, podcaster Joe Rogan and Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers both publicly confirmed that they took ivermectin after they were each diagnosed with COVID-19. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) haven’t recommended the drug to be used for treating the virus.

“Ivermectin might not be as deadly as everyone said it was. Speak up!” Bowden said on Nov. 10.

Bowden’s attorney, Steve Mitby, told local media outlets that the doctor has treated more than 2,000 COVID-19 patients and said she isn’t against vaccines.

“Like many Americans, Dr. Bowden believes that people should have a choice and believes that all people, regardless of vaccine status, should have access to the same high-quality health care,” Mitby said.

Speaking to local media outlet Click2Houston, Bowden, who also runs her own private practice, BreatheMD, said she had a “great relationship” with Houston Methodist.

But the “issues with vaccines and ivermectin really go against patient autonomy and their right to choose their treatment,” she said.

“All of my comments are backed by clinical experience,” Bowden told the Houston Chronicle. “I have been open seven days a week since the pandemic began, performing over 80,000 COVID tests and treating over 2,000 patients with COVID.”

Dr. Bowden is not in the wrong here, and anyone can see that if they choose to. Our freedom of choice is in question, and the Biden administration only has themselves to blame for vaccine hesitancy. It’s your choice to decide whether or not this is a targeted attempt, planned just like the release of the virus. It’s all too convenient that the rest of the country is socially dismantled. Nineteen months into the global pandemic, the U.S. is again facing challenges in “building back better,” as President Joe Biden once promised during his campaign trail.

Now that he’s leading the White House, Biden has ordered a COVID vaccine mandate that, as well-intentioned as they may try to make it seem, also negatively affects millions of Americans across the country today. In September, the Democratic leader released a slew of orders to have federal employees and contractors, as well as private businesses with at least a hundred employees to require the vaccine on its workers, a rule that appeared to be very communist to some critics.

“This is exactly what the communists did in the old olden days. That is how they rolled,” Dr. Jaroslav Flidr, a physicist and cyber security expert who was let go by George Washington University for refusing the COVID vaccine, told CBN News. Flidr is no stranger to communism, having grown up in Czechoslovakia and having been a student leader during Czechoslovakia’s Velvet Revolution.

“So, when I saw (George Washington University COVID vaccine mandate), I was quite surprised, and I thought, ‘No way, absolutely no way I would actually comply with this,” Flidr said. “They couldn’t force me to take an aspirin pill doing it this way. You want the (sic) fire me, fire me.”

And so he was fired. Flidr recalled how based on experience, when citizens comply with government mandates such as the vaccine order, it only encourages the government to do it again. He explained how he appeared to receive a message saying that the government “owns” the people and “make [them] do whatever [it wants].” The physicist refused and declared that he did not “care what the cost is.”

Conservative organizations are also standing up against President Biden’s vaccine mandate, as Family Research Council president Tony Perkins condemned the rules as “a massive overreach by the federal government.” Clarifying that he was not against the COVID vaccine and that he had in fact encouraged others to get the jab, Perkins said that he was “anti-government mandate.”

The 1989-founded Liberty Counsel through its founder Mat Staver also decried President Biden’s vaccine mandate, calling it “reprehensible,” “un-American,” and “unconstitutional.” He said it was “despicable” to force healthcare workers all over the country to get the COVID vaccine just to keep their jobs.

Already, there have been major clashes between states and the people affected by President Biden’s vaccine mandate. Police departments in various cities have forced their officers to get the jab, with some facing termination over it. In Maine, healthcare workers were defeated by a decision handed down by the U.S. Supreme Court when it refused to protect opponents of vaccine mandates from losing their jobs, the Associated Press reported.

The report said that it was the first time the U.S. Supreme Court decided on a statewide vaccine mandate, as it previously rejected vaccine mandate challenges in New York and Indiana. While Justice Stephen Breyer rejected the emergency appeal, he did however allow for retry as the deadline to get vaccinated, which is on October 29, is fast approaching. The judge decided in the case that regular COVID testing was not enough to ensure that the coronavirus’ delta variant would not spread.

Dozens of healthcare workers at Central Maine Medical Lewiston, like many other hospitals that have mandated COVID vaccines in the U.S., have opted to quit, causing a shortage in staff in already overwhelmed medical facilities.
