THE GARDEN- ISOLATION? OR OPPORTUNITY?

By Edward O’HARA When God placed Adam in the garden did He tell him he was to live only in the garden? Were there boundaries for the garden that he was not to pass? Is there any place in the Bible that says Adam had to stay in the garden when God placed him there? Or was Adam able to go anywhere in the earth he chose? Is there in the Genesis account, or anywhere else in the Bible, anything that tells us that Adam had access to the whole earth? The answer is yes. Because in Gen.1:29 God told Adam and Eve they were to be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth. He said, “Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl…

ADAM THE GARDENER- OUR SPIRITUAL BIRTHRIGHT

When God placed Adam in the garden He said one of the reasons he placed him there was because “there was no one to till the ground”. So this was Adam’s job when he lived there just as it was after he was sent from the garden. And he obviously did it. Even though we know he could have chosen not to. He did have free will both before and after he left the garden, after all. God made him so he could make choices. Having the free will to decide what he would and would not do based on the information he was given by those he spoke with, God and Eve, and eventually hearing as well from the serpent, and the experiences he went through in his environment. The garden where he was told he could eat from…

ADAM THE GARDENER- WHAT HE WAS REALLY LIKE

Even though we see others write of Adam regarding the events in Genesis, the Genesis account itself gives the clearest picture for us of what Adam was really like. We see in ch.1 that he was made on the 6th day in God’s image and likeness. We also see that God made them male and female. And in a more detailed explanation of why God made Eve God says that it was because it was not good for Adam to be alone. So God made a woman from Adam’s side, a rib, to be a helpmeet and to be fruitful and multiply. One thing we should be careful to notice here, in case you have ever heard anyone say there were people created before Adam, is that God said Adam was alone until He made Eve. So there weren’t other…

WHERE WOULD WE ALL BE IF NOT FOR ADAM EATING THE FRUIT?

Edward O’Hara… I heard a story once about a church in which the elders decided all church employees must be able to read and write. Knowing their janitor had no education, they told him, “We will support you to go back to school.” “I’m a little old for that,” the janitor said and reluctantly gave his notice. With his savings, he opened a little shop. He did well, opened more shops, and soon needed a bank for all his deposits. When the banker found out the man was illiterate, he said, “My goodness man! Do you have any idea where you’d be if you could read and write?!?” “You bet,” the man answered. “I’d be back at the church sweeping out the fellowship hall.” So what happened to the janitor was actually a blessing in disguise. And just like this…
