  As different as the Old Testament is from the New Testament. So is the Old Testament prophet different from believers who prophesy in the New Testament. And as different as the function of the Holy Spirit was in the Old Testament from in the New Testament. So it is that this difference in His function in the New Testament determines how God speaks to the believer today. We are seeing many who call themselves prophets speaking as it were for God saying all sorts of things. Sometimes even seeming to get it right. But, we are not only told by Jesus that we must not be deceived by them. We also see in passages like Heb.1:1,2 that God does not speak to His people through prophets.
