Rebecca Lavrenz, also known as the “J6 Praying Grandma,” has received a sentence of 12 months of probation, which includes six months of house arrest. Additionally, she has been ordered to pay the largest misdemeanor fine in U.S. history. This is in relation to her participation in the January 6th Capitol protests, as reported by The National Pulse.
Lavrenz, 72, was convicted of four federal misdemeanor charges for her involvement in the protest against the certification of the 2020 presidential election results. This involved entering the U.S. Capitol through an open door and engaging in prayer within the tourist areas.
Newsletter Important Information.
In his sentencing memo, Biden-Harris U.S. Attorney Matthew Graves expressed his opinion that Lavrenz’s acknowledgment of the political persecution of certain individuals should be seen as her refusal to show remorse for her role in promoting the riot. According to Graves, it is clear evidence that she still poses a threat to future acts of political violence.
A Muslim U.S. District Court Judge, Zia Faruqui, has issued a fine of $103,000, which is considered to be one of the highest fines ever imposed for a misdemeanor charge in U.S. history. As part of the penalty, Lavrenz was required to pay a fine and restitution, and was also prohibited from accessing the internet for a specified period of time. There are concerns about the appropriateness of this restriction, particularly due to its proximity to the upcoming presidential election. It is typically reserved for cases involving child pornography.
During her sentencing, Lavrenz expressed her respect for the judge but emphasized that she ultimately answers to a higher authority. Her defense team contended that the restriction on internet access would have a significant negative impact on her ability to run her Bed & Breakfast business, stay connected through email, and manage her online banking. Despite these concerns, the judge defended the restriction as a necessary measure to curb the dissemination of “inflammatory material” online, especially during the period leading up to the election. This can be seen as an acknowledgement of potential interference in the election by a U.S. judge.
Faruqui also instructed Lavrenz to comply with government monitoring software on her computer and mobile phone, further restricting her digital autonomy. In addition, she will require permission from her Probation Officer to meet with her Congressman or Senator at the Capitol, further restricting her sentence.
During the hearing, the judge made several critical comments, questioning Lavrenz’s priorities and expressing doubt about her faith.
“I fail to understand why prioritizing the role of the J6 Praying Grandmother takes precedence over being a grandmother in the traditional sense,” Faruqui expressed. He also expressed disapproval of her participation in what he considered to be a misguided ministry, stating, “Your faith is currently being misplaced” and implying that her ministry to strangers was of lesser importance compared to her family responsibilities.
The judge’s remarks also covered the financial assistance Lavrenz received for her legal defense, which he directed to be seized. He alleged that the funds were acquired in an improper manner, expressing his belief that there is a significant amount of money that he deems unsuitable for possession.
Interestingly, it is believed that Judge Faruqui made a comment about individuals attempting to locate and engage with Congresspeople. I find that to be completely unacceptable. That is not permissible. It is not possible for anyone to do that. The way to achieve that is through our legal system. To appear in court.
In an exclusive interview with The National Pulse, John M. Pierce, the lawyer representing Lavrenz, expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the case, stating that she did not receive a prison sentence. Nevertheless, we consider the fine to be one of the most substantial in American history for a misdemeanor case. This will pose a significant challenge for her to effectively pursue her appeal without substantial support from donors.
Furthermore, the 6-month internet restriction is unlike anything we have seen before. We believe that this restriction on her ability to speak about the 2024 election is a violation of her constitutional rights. It significantly hampers her fundraising efforts to support her appeal. This serves as another troubling example of the unequal justice system that is undermining the fundamental principles of our Constitutional republic. Rebecca Lavrenz, known as the ‘Praying Grandma,’ is truly exceptional and represents the best of our nation. We will fiercely defend her and her beliefs until the very end.
