Oklahoma Sen. Markwayne Mullin challenged the union leader to fight on Tuesday, prompting a swift intervention by Sanders, who chairs the Senate labor committee.

Sen. Markwayne Mullin, a Republican, appeared to challenge Teamsters President Sean O’Brien to a fight during a Senate hearing on Tuesday, almost igniting a brawl that required Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders to step in.

This incident coincided with reports of a violent struggle between Republican Reps. Kevin McCarthy and Tim Burchett inside the U.S. Capitol.

Five months later, Mullin replied to the message, saying he was prepared to resolve the matter immediately.

“This is the place and time, sir. We can be two consenting adults if you want to run your mouth. Here, we can wrap it up,” Mullin remarked. “You want to do it now?”

“I’d love to do it right now,” said 51-year-old O’Brien.
Mullin responded, “Well, stand your butt up, then.”
“You elevate your posterior,” O’Brien retorted.

At that moment, Sen. Sanders, the labor committee chairman, interrupted Mullin and almost removed his wedding band, yelling, “No, no, sit down! Get seated! You are a senator for the United States!”

Sanders, 82, continued, “This is a hearing.” “And God knows the American people have enough contempt for Congress, let’s not make it worse.”
