There are times when a man of God who is loyal will have money problems. It doesn’t mean he’s been unfaithful or doesn’t believe in God. It’s a test of faith. This man who worked with the prophets died owing money. His wife was afraid that the debt collectors would take their kids as slaves to pay off the debt. Elisha, a servant of God, told her what to do. She didn’t get anything from him. He left everything behind when God called him and used his yoke for firewood and his plow horses as sacrifices.
The holy man asked her what was left. God can do a lot with a little, even when we only give Him a little. And if we are willing to show our faith by giving Him that little bit, He makes it bigger. Remember the woman who fed Elijah with fish and bread? What do you have in your house? Say it out loud! A lot of us have a lot. Are we going to let God handle it?
He tells her to ask her neighbors for as many jars as she can. Faith brings a big basket to the store. You can expect a big answer from God. It kept coming out of the jar as she poured the little oil she had left. It kept coming out until every jar was full. All of them would be full if she had a million more. When we lose hope, the miracle ends. Get ready in a big way when you want God to move. You will wish you had prepared more jars if God told you to do it. They sold the oil to pay off their debts and set aside money for a pension.
Remind yourself that God will provide for those who trust Him, even when they are in trouble.
2 Kings 4:1-3 1The wife of a man from the company of the prophets cried out to Elisha, “Your servant my husband is dead, and you know that he revered the LORD. But now his creditor is coming to take my two boys as his slaves.” 2Elisha replied to her, “How can I help you? Tell me, what do you have in your house?” “Your servant has nothing there at all,” she said, “except a little oil.” 3Elisha said, “Go around and ask all your neighbors for empty jars. Don’t ask for just a few.
