By SRH, Police and fire chaplains in Carlsbad, California have been instructed to cease praying in the name of Jesus. Pastor JC Cooper has been a volunteer chaplain for the police department for six years. Recently, he was asked to deliver the invocation at a police department awards ceremony. At the end of the prayer, he mentioned the name of Jesus Christ. Subsequently, the city manager informed Pastor Cooper that any future prayers invoking the name of Jesus would result in disciplinary action. During a conversation with City Manager Scott Chadwick and the police chief, Mr. Chadwick stated that mentioning “Jesus” was considered harassment, created a hostile work environment, and favored one religion over others.
