Watchman’s Daily Devotional: We Are Right To Doubt Our Own Abilities, But We Should Never Doubt God’s Ability To Keep Us From Falling

Peter had vowed that even if every other disciple abandoned Jesus, he would remain steadfast until the end. In fulfillment of Jesus’ words, Peter indeed denied Him three times, as recorded in Matthew 26:33-35. Peter had encountered the risen Lord in Jerusalem on two separate occasions. At this moment in John’s Gospel, Peter found himself back at the fishing nets. Keep in mind that when Jesus summoned him, He declared that from that moment forward, he would be catching men (Matthew 4:19). A man from the shore inquired if they had been successful in their fishing efforts. Then, a similar event unfolded as when Jesus first invited Peter to become His disciple (Luke 5:5-7). As the nets were filled once more in a miraculous way, Peter recognized the figure on the shore as Jesus and eagerly swam to Him. With […]

Watchman’s Daily Devotional: Walking In The Spirit Is What It Means To Be Truly Free, And Love Is The First Fruit Of The Spirit

Walking in the Spirit is the only way to be truly free, and the first fruit of the Spirit is love. “All of us have knowledge” must have been another term that the Corinthian church used a lot to explain why they ate meat that had been given to idols. It was hard to get meat unless you went to a pagan temple. The Corinthians thought that because they knew there was only one true God, they could buy the meat that was presented to idols that were really just stones. Paul is telling them that “knowledge” may make us feel good about ourselves. Watchman’s Daily Devotional: To Understand What Took Place In These Words Of Jesus, We Must Understand How The Words Sounded In The Language They Were Speaking And In The Culture Of The Time

To grasp the significance of Jesus’ words, it is essential to consider how they resonated in the original language and within the cultural context of that era. The translation holds true, yet the words and names carry profound significance. In a moment of profound inquiry, Jesus posed the question of who the crowd was searching for. John 18:5-6 5 They answered him, “Jesus of Nazareth.” Jesus said to them, “I am he.” Judas, who betrayed him, was standing with them. 6 When Jesus said to them, “I am he,” they drew back and fell to the ground.

Watchman’s Daily Devotional: If One Does Not Want To Believe, He Or She Will Find An Excuse Even When The Evidence Is Clear. Do Your Eyes See?

A man who had been blind since birth was begging for money when Jesus and His disciples saw him. They were possibly just outside the temple. The students asked him whose sin, his or his parents’, made him blind. Jews thought that a baby could sin while still in the womb, before it was born. Jesus said it wasn’t either. He said it happened so that God’s works could be shown in him. In this case, Jesus was showing that He is the light of the world (John 8:12), which He had just said. A man was given mud to put on his eyes by Jesus. He then told him to wash it off in the pool of Siloam. Recently, in Jerusalem, workers were digging for a sewer line and found that same pool. They also found a wide set
