Watchman: Daily Devotional, Faith Insists That God Is Greater Than Any Challenge or Circumstance We Face. Jesus’ Followers Should Never Be Afraid

Matthew 8:25-27 25 The disciples went and woke him, saying, "Lord, save us! We're going to drown!" 26 He replied, "You of little faith, why are you so afraid?" Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm. 27 The men were amazed and asked, "What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the waves obey him!"

A boat from the first century was discovered in the dirt during a recent Kinneseret Lake low water level. Because there are still murals of ancient boats today, archaeologists are certain that the boat was a Jewish vessel from that era. Twelve passengers would have constituted a fairly full boat if this is the same type of boat that Jesus and His apostles were in.

The front of the ship had a quarterdeck where the nets could be kept. Jesus was probably sleeping on the nets down there. He was a morning person. He received his instructions and spent time with His Father before the day began. To have slept through the storm, he had to be physically exhausted. Jesus was a go-all-in kind of guy.

This appears to be yet another attempt by Satan to hinder Jesus. He was headed to the Decapolis region, which was populated by Gentiles, according to other Gospels. There, the gospel was going to advance greatly. When we carry out the Father's will, we should be prepared for opposition. The depths of that lake were regarded by the Jews as the Abyss. There was more to their fear of drowning than merely dread of passing away. They begged Jesus to save them as He awoke.

Initially, Jesus chastised them for their lack of Faith. They were rebuked for their fear rather than the fact that they refrained from what He was going to do. Faith holds that God is greater than any challenge or circumstance we face. Jesus' followers should never be afraid. More than anything is their Shepherd. As He finally rebuked the wind and waves, everything fell silent. Who is this, exactly? What's your response? It greatly affects whether you will act in fear or in faith. Jesus is your Savior, Creator, Master, and friend, so you need not be afraid of anything that comes your way.

Ask yourself what kind of law man's creation abides by, if you dare.

The Great Tribulation

It is our belief that the Great Tribulation referred to in the New Testament Book of Revelation (chapters 6-11) is unfolding before our eyes. In the near future, we will devote the "Tribulation" tab on our "Trending" menu to this emerging reality. As people continue to unplug from mainstream media, our commitment is to present the truth and encourage our audience to understand current events from a Biblical perspective. The Watchman

In the Bible, the Watchman is responsible for keeping watch and warning others of potential danger or impending judgment. The role is mentioned several times in the Old Testament, particularly in the book of Ezekiel. In Ezekiel 33:6, God says to the prophet Ezekiel, "But if the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet, so that the people are not warned, and the sword comes and takes any one of them, that person is taken away in his iniquity, but his blood I will require at the watchman's hand."
