The government deployed 40,000 police officers yesterday afternoon to quell the violence after looting, arson, and attacks on government buildings and libraries spread across the country. The teenager was killed in the Paris suburb of Nanterre, where approximately 200 police officers were injured overnight.

AFP reported, citing the president’s office, that Emmanuel Macron has canceled his attendance at an EU summit in Brussels in order to hold another emergency security meeting on Friday due to the ongoing unrest.
