WHY SATAN’S SIN WAS IMPUTED TO HIM, BUT NOT ADAM’S- Ez.28

Oh, you thought God punished Adam for his sin too? Well, you need to look at what Paul says about this in Rom.5:12-14. Because there you will find that Adam was not punished for his sin because there was no law. And “where there is no law there is no transgression.” Rom.4:15

Concerning Satan we read in Ez.28 about who he was when he was made. And we also read that he sinned against God and was judged. Calling him here the king of Tyrus. Saying also that he was made an anointed cherub.

We can see that this is not about a man who sinned as the prince of Tyrus referred to in the beginning of this chapter. Because God tells us through Ezekiel that the king is an anointed cherub. An angel. While of the prince in vs.2 God plainly said “thou art a man, and are not God.” Saying also that it was only in his own heart that he sat as God.

Similar language is also used in Isaiah14 where many teach that this is a reference to Satan before he fell. And the reason he fell from his place in heaven.

But, in Isaiah we are told plainly again that this king is a man. Not an angel. And certainly not God. But, one who exalted himself only in his own heart as God just like the prince of Tyrus who was also just a man did.

From this we can see in Ez.28 that the king of Tyre is a reference to Satan when he sinned against God in heaven. And how he lost his place there and was condemned for his sin.

He was an angel in heaven that was punished for his sin. Held accountable because he had something that Adam did not have when he sinned. Satan had the knowledge of good and evil. And we are told in Gen.3:22 that Adam did not.

And Satan’s sin was the kind of sin for which all men, with or without the law, are held accountable before God. The sin of rebellion and rejection of God as God. This is why Satan’s sin was imputed to him. And Adam’s was not. This is the way of things for all who have the knowledge of good and evil.

In contrast, Deut.1:39 shows us the opposite is also true. Saying that children who have no knowledge of good and evil are not held accountable for thier sins.

This is yet another example for us that shows why we must reject the doctrine of original sin. Because it is fundamentally in opposition to the truth of God’s word. Both here in the Genesis account that Paul describes in Rom.5:12-14. And in every place the knowledge of good and evil is made an issue.

And there is a connection made by Paul in Rom.5:12-14 between the law and the knowledge of good and evil. This connection puts men in the position with God that makes them accountable to it for its violation.

Thankfully this does not bring the condemnation of an eternity separated from God. Because both with and without the law it is our trust in Him, or lack thereof, that determines where we will spend eternity.

This is where those who have claimed to know the Jesus of the Bible must be very sure about in whom they have believed. Making sure as Paul says in 2Cor.13:5 to “Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?”

For if you have believed in a different Jesus, then you have surely gotten there by believing a different gospel. A subject about which Paul says many things. Among them is the fact found in Gal.1:8,9 that those who teach and those who believe a perversion of the true gospel are anathema. Damned to hell.

And any gospel that teaches imputation of sin so that the son bears the iniquity of the father is certainly a perversion from the gospel of Jesus Christ. And will lead the one believing it to trust in a Jesus, Father, and atonement that is the same perversion. And therefore leaves its adherents missing the mark as Paul says in Rom.3:23 to come short of the glory of God.

The remedy for this is of course to reject the false doctrine of original sin to believe the true gospel. The gospel in which every man is held to account for his and his sin alone. Not sins defined by the law given through Moses. Because that covenant has passed by Jesus’ fulfilling of it.

There is only one sin that all men are held to account for before God. And that is what he has done with Jesus.

You are not held accountable by God if your father did not believe in Jesus. Or his father. Or his father’s father. Nor is anyone held accountable for Adam’s sin. So that you must know that death therefore is not a punishment for sin. But, only the result of an angel being stationed to guard the way to the tree of life that was in the garden.

And this was not a punishment for Adam’ sin. But, so that all men might come to a saving faith in Jesus. A faith in the risen Jesus that is a gift of God that He determined in eternity past would be the only way to have eternal life and immortality.

An eternal life that comes by the creation of a spirit in us when we trust in Jesus. Life that Adam never had when God made him. And one he could never receive from the tree of life he ate from if he remained in the garden.

This is why imputed sin in the doctrine of original sin is a denial of the only gospel that can save you. Because the true gospel is about a natural man being made a spiritual being by what Jesus called in John3:1-8 being born again. Saying, “6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

7 Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.” Showing that the true gospel is not about a need to be cleansed from the imputation of Adam’s original sin.

This is why Paul says in Rom.10:9,10 that to be saved from an eternity separated from God we must confess with our mouth the Lord Jesus. And believe in our heart that He has raised from the dead. Because it is with the heart man’s believing makes him righteous. And it is with his mouth this confession saves him.

If you will do this then you will have eternal life right now. If you will do this you will become immortal at the resurrection. If you will do this… then I will see you there or in the air!
