Alberta premier Jason Kenney creates panel to balance budget | The Star

Alberta Premier Jason Kenney says he’ll announce “a final decision” this Saturday on whether to proceed with the second phase of the province’s pandemic reopening plan.

Kenney says on social media it will be “a prudent decision based on the latest data” and that “damaging restrictions should not last one day longer than necessary to prevent hospitals from being overwhelmed.”

Step 2 will remove any remaining requirements for schools, such as cohorts for kids in kindergarten to Grade 6, and will drop youth screening for entertainment and sports, as well as capacity limits on all large venues.

It will also remove indoor mask requirements, indoor and outdoor gathering limits, and mandatory work-from-home requirements.

Kenney ended the province’s vaccine passport earlier this month as well as mask requirements for schools, and mask requirements in all settings for children under 12.

He said at that time that Alberta would enter Step 2 of the reopening plan March 1 if COVID-19 hospitalizations were trending downward, and on Monday he said the data continues to show a steep drop in the COVID-19 Omicron wave.

This news comes just days after demonstrators in Ottawa were trampled by police horses and dispersed from the Canadian capitol.

On Feb. 19, police shattered truck windows and battled demonstrators as law enforcement continued to press in on the main protest location in downtown Ottawa.

Around 1 p.m. on Feb. 19, Ottawa police said that 47 persons had been detained and 38 vehicles had been towed.

A large police presence remained in downtown Ottawa, a day after law enforcement stepped up operations against demonstrators opposing COVID-19 mandates in order to disperse rallies near the Parliament Buildings of Canada.

Many trucks and cars have been removed from the protest location by police, and more were driven away on Feb. 19, although some remain. Demonstrators are still present in the neighborhood, with some fresh arrivals on February 19.

Following the federal government’s deployment of the Emergencies Act, police operations were expanded. On Feb. 18, police made over 100 arrests and removed 21 vehicles from the downtown core, according to police.

On Feb. 18, mounted police and cops on foot advanced on protestors, knocking some down. Some officers were highly equipped, with assault weapons among them.

On the same day, the House of Commons began its session after being adjourned on February 18 due to police activities on Parliament Hill.

The House is presently considering Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s use of the Emergencies Act on Feb. 14 to deal with the ongoing protests.

The proposal is opposed by the Conservatives and the Bloc Québécois, who argue that the situation does not merit its deployment. The NDP has stated that they support the Liberal government’s use of the act.

The House must debate and vote on the bill within seven days after the government’s introduction.

Tamara Lich, one of the Freedom Convoy’s organizers, is due in court on Feb. 19 after being arrested on a charge of advising others to conduct mischief.

Chris Barber, a fellow Freedom Convoy organizer who was also detained, appeared in court in Ottawa on Feb. 18. Barber was released on $100,000 bail with the condition that he leave Ontario and not publicly endorse the Freedom Convoy or communicate with the other major protest organizers.

Pat King, a vocal demonstrator, was also detained and will appear in court on Feb. 19. Organizers Lich, Barber, and Benjamin Dichter claim that King is not among the Freedom Convoy’s leaders.

Truck drivers started a movement against the federal government’s requirement that truck drivers crossing the US-Canada border get vaccinated for COVID-19, which sparked continuous protests against COVID-19 mandates and limitations. More people opposed to various mandates and restrictions joined the movement as enormous convoys of trucks and other vehicles headed to Ottawa to protest the mandate.

Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland announced on Feb. 17 that information is now being shared by law enforcement with Canada’s financial institutions in order to cut off funding for the ongoing protests, thanks to additional powers provided under the Emergencies Act.

“The RCMP has shared the names of both individuals and businesses, as well as crypto-wallets, with banking institutions, and accounts have been frozen, with more to follow. “The registration procedure with FINTRAC has begun for crowdfunding platforms and payment service providers,” Freeland said at a press conference.

Despite the proposed repeal of COVID-19 vaccine regulations pertaining to cross border truckers, the public is not satisfied; And rightfully so. They’re trying to put a band-aid on a problem that they’ve created, when all freedom loving citizens can see right through their egregious agenda. They’ve adopted anti-domestic terrorism protocol to deal with those who seek to observe their medical freedom. The Canadian constitutional crisis is seemingly far from over. But it seems as though the public will continue to make themselves known as this tyrannical agenda unfolds.

Nothing these tyrants say or do will cause God fearing men and women to relinquish their faith in Christ. Despite their feeble attempts at persecution, Christ is king. 2 Corinthians 12:10 says: “For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong.” Stay inquisitive in the word of God, and the world around you.
