“The Good Ole Days” Most Likely Will Never Return to a Normal Life
There was an old man I shared breakfast with most every morning at the local café, he was 96 and told of finding buffalo skulls as a kid off toward a neighboring community. This old man shared many stories about all sorts of experiences, like being a night walker on the pipeline back in 1935 to check for leaks. Said he killed 10-12 rattlers every night with the light of a coal oil lamp. I asked him about the good ole days and he said nix on that “no such thing”. He says “Why I wouldn’t go back to those times for the world” “Air Conditioning” “Best thing ever happened” says he. Well I truly have to agree, living where I did and still do and growing up without air conditioning was gruesome. That 10 inch oscillating fan didn’t do much, just kept the mosquitoes blown away. Now, we’re talking working ranch several hundred cattle, 1000 goats and some sheep I’m talkin old ranch, inherited, methods derived from Great Grandpa and the great cowboys of the day. As each generation fades and leaves a small legacy to those he trained to lead, the chosen will move into the position with a higher education and strive to make it more efficient and thus a more profitable operation. Some things just don’t change and never will, cattle need water and salt. Nothing on this earth can do without water, salt is an essential electrolyte.
