Houthi militants fire rockets at two ships in the Red Sea Crisis. Houthi militants’ repeated attacks on Red Sea commercial vessels prove Smite Biden’s Operation Prosperity Guardian failed to defend the shipping industry.

Iran-backed After US and UK attacks on dozens of locations in Yemen, Iraq, and Syria, Houthi rebels targeted two commercial ships in the southern Red Sea. This escalation at the maritime choke-point has blocked ships, causing supply chain bottlenecks and cost-push inflation.

A Houthi spokesman told Reuters that anti-ship missiles were fired at the Morning Tide and Star Nasia, flying Barbados and Marshall Islands flags, respectively, as British and American.

Ambrey, a British maritime security service, reported a suicide drone damaged Morning Tide while going southeast through the Red Sea. No one was hurt.

Iran-backed Houthi rebels have launched drone and missile attacks against Israel. A U.S. Navy destroyer and F/A-18 Super Hornets intercepted the attack.

In the Southern Red Sea, the USS Laboon (DDG 58) and Eisenhower Carrier Strike Group F/A-18 Super Hornets intercepted 12 one-way attack drones, three anti-ship ballistic missiles, and two land attack cruise missiles. According to the U.S. Central Command, the Houthis attacked for 10 hours commencing at 6:30 a.m. (Sanaa time) on December 26.

Thank goodness no ships were damaged or casualties were reported. The attack occurred the day after Joe Biden ordered retaliatory strikes against Iranian-backed militants in Iraq in response to attacks on a U.S. airbase in Erbil that injured three troops.

A few days previously, the USS Laboon intercepted four UAVs in the Red Sea. Two commercial vessels called for help, and the destroyer responded. A Houthi one-way assault drone almost missed the Norwegian chemical tanker M/V Blaamanen. The Gabon-owned crude oil ship M/V Saibaba was hit by a one-way attack drone, but no injuries were recorded.

The Navy ship Carney stopped 14 Red Sea attack drones on Dec. 16. U.S. Central Command said there is strong evidence that the Houthis in Yemen are launching these assaults.

On Dec. 18, U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin announced a global task group to protect civilian ships in response to rising regional threats.
