A prominent New York City cancer doctor killed herself and her baby at their Westchester home Saturday morning in what police believe was a murder-suicide, reports said.
Dr. Krystal Cascetta, 40, a Hematology-Oncology specialist at Mount Sinai Hospital, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound around 7 am after apparently shooting her child, according to ABC 7. “A preliminary investigation revealed that at approximately 7:00 a.m., Krystal Cascetta entered her child’s room and shot her baby and then turned the gun on herself,” state police said in a statement.
“The scene is consistent with a murder/suicide.” The incident happened at her home in Somers, a $1 million house she shared with her husband, 37-year-old Tim Talty, according to the Daily Mail.
Hematology-oncology specialist Dr. Krystal Cascetta, 40, worked at Mount Sinai Medical Center. Although the child's age is yet unknown, social media reports seem to point to a March birth.According to her biography on the Mt. Sinai website, Cascetta graduated from Albany Medical College, where she received a prize for her patient-centered behavior. She received a comparable honor while finishing her residency at North Shore University Hospital through Hofstra North Shore LIJ School of Medicine.
Dr. Cascetta worked in breast cancer research in New York City and resided in West Chester.
Dr. Cascetta was an expert in breast cancer research at Mt. Sinai.
When The Post contacted the hospital, they opted not to comment.
In a ceremony held in Brooklyn's Greenpoint in 2019, Cascetta and Talty became husband and wife.
Talty owns Talty Bars, a manufacturer of protein bars.
According to the company website, Cascetta provided advice during the product's development using her knowledge in medicine and science.
At the 2018 SHAREing and CAREing Gala, Cascetta accepted the Physician's Recognition Award.
