Employees at Google UK were informed that the company no longer tolerates use of the terms "you guys," "man hours," "whitelist," "black hole," and "blacklist."
There has been a long-term, industry-wide push to include more inclusive language in programming languages, of which these suggestions are a part. According to a statement Google gave to Fox News, "the guidance helps software developers make code consistent with industry norms and removes old language that has crept into software code, like master-salve and phrases that exclude women."
Google also asked its employees to stop calling one another fat, crazy, bonkers, or mad. The use of a fake variable is also strictly forbidden.Workers have been instructed to put in "person hours" rather than "man hours."Google says you should take care not to upset your "snowflake" coworkers.
The memo reportedly instructed employees to avoid using pronouns that imply gender when referring to groups of people.Nigel Mills, a conservative MP, disagrees, calling it "woke nonsense." And she doesn't see any reason to eliminate phrases or words because some special snowflake might be offended by them.
