Watchman: Truth-tellers are becoming a major target, and extremists want to sanction Tucker Carlson for his interview with Putin.

As part of a reporting team led by Edward R. Former Belgian prime minister and current member of the European Parliament Guy Verhofstadt told Newsweek that Carlson is just a "mouthpiece" for former president Donald Trump and Russian president Vladimir Putin. Verhofstadt has asked for the EU to put a "travel ban" on the former Fox News personality.

"As Putin is a war criminal and the EU sanctions all who assist him in that effort, it seems logical that the External Action Service examine his case as well," he stated.

Newsweek was informed by former MEP Luis Gariocano that he concurs with Verhofstadt.

"He is no longer a newsman, but a propagandist for the most heinous regime on European soil and the one that is most dangerous to our peace and security," he added about Carlson.

"First of all, it should be remembered that Putin is not just the president of an aggressor country, but he is wanted by the International Criminal Court and accused of genocide and war crimes," MEP Urmas Paet, a former foreign minister of Estonia, told the outlet.

He also said, "Carlson wants to give a platform to someone accused of crimes of genocide—this is wrong." Putin should address the International Criminal Court (ICC) if he has anything to say. However, Carlson is not acting in the capacity of a true journalist because he has openly shown his support for Putin and the Russian government and has consistently denigrated Ukraine, which is the target of Russian aggression."

"Due to such advocacy for an illegal government, you may find yourself on the penalty list. The main issue here is travel restrictions to EU nations."

"Most Americans have no idea why Putin invaded Ukraine or what his ambitions are today," Carlson said on Tuesday, clarifying that he is interviewing Putin for a reason other than that "We are not here because we love Vladimir Putin... Though we don't want you to agree with everything Putin says in this interview, we do think you should see it. You ought to be as informed as possible."

A Kremlin-affiliated Telegram channel claims that Tucker's interview would likely be made public on Thursday late afternoon EST.

According to Reuters via The Indian Express, Carlson is the first person to officially interview Putin since October 2021, when CNBC's Hadley Gamble had an exclusive conversation with him.

Putin was the subject of an exclusive interview with Kiers Simmons, senior international correspondent for NBC News, earlier that year on June 11, 2021.

On September 3, 2013, Putin was also interviewed by the Associated Press.

Additionally, in 1997—four years before to the 9/11 attacks—CNN conducted an interview with terrorist Osama bin Laden of Al-Qaeda in an Afghan cave.
