How God addresses humanity’s sin is what distinguishes Christianity from every other belief system. Paul teaches us that our core issue is sin. Even those who strive earnestly fall short of God’s standard of holiness. No individual, whether man or woman, is righteous enough to stand before God. God is holy, while we are sinful. Some other religions acknowledge this truth. The significant difference lies in how we can resolve this predicament.

The Jews advocate for repentance and good deeds. The Muslims suggest dying as martyrs or doing their utmost while hoping for Allah’s mercy. The Buddhists and Hindus encourage continual effort through each life cycle. In contrast, Jesus proclaims, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6). Jesus understands that we can never attain goodness sufficient for God, so He settled our sin debt and offers us His righteousness. By accepting the Holy Spirit, the transformative journey begins and will reach its fulfillment when we behold Him face to face (1 John 3:2). While the answer for all other faiths is to strive harder, Jesus invites us to trust and believe in Him.

Paul wrote that the Law and the Prophets testify to this path. Every prophecy of the Messiah bearing our sins and conquering Satan, from Genesis to Malachi, affirms that the Messiah Jesus is God’s answer to our sinful nature. Rather than relying on our limited strength, we surrender to His all-powerful Spirit.
