Hong Kong Erupts: Tear Gas Deployed As Thousands Fill Streets To Oppose China's National Security Law...
After months of relative quiet amid the coronavirus pandemic, thousands of protesters flooded the streets of Hong Kong, defying the city's ban on gatherings to voice their opposition to a new "national security" law proposed by Beijing which would threaten the city's autonomy and the civil liberties of its residents.
Beijing unveiled details of the law on Friday, which would most likely grant the Chinese Communist Party (CCP)'s security services jurisdiction over matters in Hong Kong - which drew condemnation from Taiwan, the United Kingdom, the EU, Australia, Canada, and the United States, according to the report. It also drew immediate protests from opposition lawmakers.
The national security law would bypass the city's legislture, which is expected to enact a ban on subversion, secession and sedition against Beijing. It will also enable mainland Chinese national security agencies to operate on city soil for the first time.
On Sunday, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said that Beijing must enact the law without delay, and that it is the role of China's central government to enforce national security.
"We must get it done without the slightest delay," said Wang, who added that the law would 'create more stability and confidence' in the Special Administration Region as well as a better environment for security.
Shortly after the announcement, Hong Kong residents took to social media to organize a march on Hong Kong Island from Causeway Bay to Wan Chai at 1 p.m. local time on Sunday.
Some protesters were chanting "Liberate Hong Kong, revolution of our times," while others chanted "Hong Kong independence, the only way out," according to CNN.

Antichrist
After nearly six months of protests in Hong Kong, the weekend demonstrations - which more closely resemble street skirmishes between black-clad protesters and the cops - have grown increasingly violent, people are being seriously wounded and even killed on both sides. And this week, protesters have apparently committed to another escalation: they've taken to the streets to disrupt HK's public transportation during Monday and Tuesday, forcing businesses to close and schools to cancel.
Hong Kong police warned on Tuesday that the city is now "on the brink of total collapse" after a second straight day of violence and chaos. The MTR, Hong Kong's subway network, closed several stations and reduced the frequency of trains to cope with the demonstrations.
Some commuters were forced to walk along rail tracks to the next stop to catch a train to work. A senior police superintendent insisted that the 'rioters' - a term used pejoratively to describe the protesters - were pushing "our society" toward a breakdown.
"Over the past two days, our society has been pushed to the brink of a total breakdown as rioters went on a rampage," Kong Wing-cheung, a senior police superintendent, said in a press conference.
Hong Kong Chief Executive Carrie Lam accused protesters on Tuesday of trying to "paralyze" the city. She accused demonstrators of being "extremely selfish" and said she hoped all universities in Hong Kong would encourage students not to participate in the violence.
Of course, the violence has gone both ways. Lam was speaking one day after police shot a protester and a man was set on fire in some of the most dramatic violence to arise from the protests. Lam added that the city planned to hold local elections on Nov. 24, the first test of public sentiment since the pro-democracy protests began five months ago.
"On the whole, we will try our very best to ensure the election will continue in a safe and orderly manner," Lam said.
But the vote is bound to be controversial. Already, one protest leader has been barred from participating, and a number of other pro-democracy candidates have been targeted by violence. According to the FT, at least eight attacks on pro-democracy political figures have occurred, while at least one pro-establishment lawmaker has also been stabbed.
Even the US, which once openly encouraged the pro-democracy demonstrations, has changed its rhetoric and is now pushing for a return to peace in Hong Kong.
Morgan Ortagus, a US State Department spokeswoman, said Washington was standing by with "grave concern" and that the polarization "underscored" the need for dialogue between the government, protesters and other members of the public.
"We condemn violence on all sides, extend our sympathies to victims of violence regardless of their political inclinations, and call for all parties - police and protesters - to exercise restraint," Ms Ortagus said.

Barcelona saw its fifth consecutive night of violence on Friday, in the wake of Monday’s Supreme Court ruling that jailed nine pro-independence leaders for their role in the 2017 secessionist drive. The disturbances last night were particularly virulent, in terms of their duration, intensity and use of violence on the part of protestors, who were very aggressive toward the police.
Violent groups surrounded the central headquarters of the National Police in the Catalan capital, throwing objects, putting up barricades and setting fire to trash containers. As the sun set, the protests moved to the center of the city, where the regional police force, the Mossos d’Esquadra, used an armored vehicle with a water cannon. At least three police officers were injured in the rioting.
These protests may fade after a while, but they are not going away. Those involved in the pro-independence movement in Catalonia are very passionate, and it has widespread public support.
Of course, the protests that have made the biggest splash on the global stage have been the relentless pro-democracy protests in Hong Kong. Despite the brutality of the police, the protesters just keep coming back again and again, and “tens of thousands” of protesters were in the streets once again on Sunday…

The impeachment process is bringing a focal point to the deep anger that has been building on both sides of the political spectrum for many years. Now that this process has begun, there is no going back, and both sides believe that there is only one result that will bring justice.
For the left, any result that does remove Donald Trump from the office will be a bitter disappointment. The Democrats in the House of Representatives are going to draft articles of impeachment, and they believe that they already have the votes they need to send those articles of impeachment to the U.S. Senate.
If the Republican-controlled Senate does not vote to convict Trump and remove him from office, this will greatly upset the left and could result in an explosion of anger in our city streets.
On the other hand, if the Republican-controlled Senate does vote to convict Trump and remove him from office, tens of millions of hardcore Trump supporters are going to be absolutely livid. There would be an explosion of righteous anger on the right, and it would almost certainly spill into our city streets.
Of course, it is likely that both sides will start protesting well before there is a final result, but once the final vote in the Senate happens that is when things are likely to get very interesting.
The Democrats should have never gone down this road because one way or another this process is going to tear us apart.

If you take some time to look up what the word fascism actually means in the dictionary, you will quickly see that Antifa represents a perfect embodiment of it.
