As of Thursday afternoon, the Global Initiative on Sharing All Influenza Data (GISAID) produced a map showing that 21 states in the US are reporting the COVID-19 variant NB.1.8.1. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s most recent estimate says that the NB.1.8.1 variant currently accounts up 43 percent of COVID-19 cases in the United States between June 8 and June 21. This means that it is now the most common strain. The CDC also claims that COVID-19 levels are “currently very low” all over the United States.
