And there are those who have done just that by teaching that John is saying here that Christians must go to Jesus for forgiveness every time they sin because otherwise they won’t be forgiven of that sin. In fact, this is what is taught in most religions that say they believe the Bible. But by teaching this they show they really don’t. Because if this is true then how is Jesus’ sacrifice any different from that of bulls and goats? If men need to go back over and over again for forgiveness then Jesus’ sacrifice wouldn’t be the final once for all sacrifice that Hebrews tells us it was, would it? I mean, it still works no matter who does them, right? And what is it about salvation by works anyway that is so ingrained in so many people that they just can’t see works not being involved in some way in salvation? Why is it so easy for people to be deceived into salvation by works mentality? It is because most people are taught from day one that if they want something in this life they will need to work for it. In Heb.9:15 we read that Jesus “is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance.” And in 2 Cor.5:21 we read “For he hath made him be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.” So the question is since for those who have believed in Jesus all sin has been forgiven and cleansed, and the transgressions under the law were all redeemed by the death of Christ, and we are righteous in Christ, why do…

Or only for “His people” as the verse says? The answer, of course, is that the message in this verse is only for “His people” Israel. Which I will now explain in this message. In the gospel that Jesus preached, we see that He told His people Israel that to have eternal life they must keep the commandments of Moses (Mt.19:16-21) and believe that He is the messiah (John5:24).
