Who is Paul writing TO in Romans? Do you think his instructions were for the whole assembly at Rome? Or was it directed at a specific group of people there? Does Paul write TO everyone when he writes to the assembly at Rome? How can we know for sure? WHAT THE DEVIL BELIEVES VS WHAT WE WHO ARE SAVED BELIEVE

Edward O’Hara: Have you ever heard someone respond to the preaching of salvation by grace through faith without works by saying, “Well, the devil believes. So just believing is not enough”? I have. And it’s very frustrating when hearing that from anyone who claims to believe in Jesus. It can attributed to immaturity. But, this kind of response can also mean that they really do not know Jesus. Because this kind of response comes from their belief that only when works accompany faith is anyone saved. Saying in effect that we are saved by works as if James was contradicting what Paul taught. Which also means that if we are not saved it is because of bad works. So salvation becomes an issue of works rather than of grace through faith. A MORE PERFECT WAY- ACTS 18:26–IN THIS WE SEE THAT THE MESSAGE OF CHRIST GIVEN THROUGH JOHN’S BAPTISM WAS INSUFFICIENT

Edward O’Hara: Like Rom.6, Acts 18 tells us there is a difference between John’s baptism and New Covenant baptism. The man Apollos in this passage is said to have been preaching the message of Christ. But, that he was preaching the way of John’s baptism. So that he was in need of being taught “a more perfect way”. In this we see that the message of Christ given through John’s baptism was insufficient. The reason this is true is because John’s baptism was only for those who were under the law. A baptism that shows how to believe in Christ while still living under the law. A way that included the remission of sins they committed while under the law. Just as John, an apostle to the circumcision per Gal.2:9, in 1 John 1:8,9 teaches. The “more perfect way” regards…

But, these expected a natural kingdom to be theirs by the hand of a judge/deliverer just as the judges like Samson, Moses, and others had in olden times. But, the kingdom Jesus spoke of was one that delivered them from the natural men they were from the time Adam was made, to spiritual men for which Jesus came to make all men. From an inheritance through flesh and blood by a water birth from their mother’s womb. That by punishing Jesus in our place God’s wrath was appeased so that we do not have to go to suffer God’s wrath by going to hell. By what they believe was the purpose of Jesus’ death paying the penalty for sin that we could not pay. But, since Jesus came, and Paul was separated as an apostle to the assembly of believers, we know that what the law says it only says to them that were under the law. Did you know that the Bible shows that even when keeping the law you may still be a transgressor of the law? And did you know that virtually all of the churches have fallen into this transgression of the law by “the deceitfulness of sin”? It’s true.
