In fact, without it no one could have a personal relationship with God. Or have eternal life and immortality.
The Genesis account that speaks to the events that happened in the garden begins with instructions from God to Adam to show him what it would take for him to remain there. God also told him what would happen when he did not live up to those instructions.
Afterward God made Eve to be a helpmeet for Adam. And they lived in the garden until the day that they chose to use God’s instructions in a way they had not done previously. By eating the fruit that God told them would bring their death.
What they didn’t know, because God did not tell them, was that they were created mortal. They were also flesh and blood with no spiritual part in them. This is what Paul tells us in 1Cor.15:45,46. And what Gen.2:7 and 7:15,22 shows us as well.
So when God said because they had eaten the fruit He instructed them not to in order to stay in the garden, He was now going to send them from the garden for the purpose of them experiencing their mortality.
Not realizing that it was their eating from the tree of life that was keeping them alive. They would soon discover that it was because they could no longer eat from it that death began to reign. As Paul says in Rom.5:12.
By this they would come to understand what God really meant when He told them that on the day they eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil they would surely die. That beginning to die on the day they could no longer eat from the tree of life. They would finally die some years later.
Thus fulfilling God’s instructions to them about their death on the day they ate the fruit. And showing them that this was not a fall they were experiencing as so many churches falsely teach. But, it was actually and in reality an ascension out of a place wherein they would never have eternal life or immortality. Nor would they be able to have a personal and loving relationship with God.
God said it this way. “And the Lord God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever:
23 Therefore the Lord God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken.
24 So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life.” Gen.3:22-24
Add to this how that God continued speaking to and dealing with Adam and Eve out of the garden just as He had in the garden and it creates for you an accurate picture of what God was doing with them. And why being sent from the garden was a step up, and not a step down, for them to be sent from the garden.
Because in the garden they were only natural, flesh and blood. And only when they would leave the garden could they become the spiritual beings they needed to be to inherit the kingdom of God. Because only a spiritual man can understand or perceive the things of the Spirit of God.
This is why Jesus said “Ye must be born of the water and the Spirit”. Adding that this is because “6 That which is born of the flesh(water) is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
7 Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.“
Tradition teaches that when Jesus said born of water He was speaking about baptism. And many still teach this today. But, the context does not refer to baptism. But, to Nicodemus’ question about doing again the fleshly birth.
So when Jesus answered him He was speaking of the flesh in contrast to the spirit birth. Which means the water Jesus spoke of is the same as the flesh He refers to immediately following. And the Spirit Jesus spoke of is spirit.
The reason this is so important is that if we believe our works have anything to do with how we are saved then we are saved by something the Bible says can not save us. So we must be careful to never add works that we can do to what must be done to save us.
This is why those who teach the water here is referring to baptism always rely on tradition. Because those traditions come from the Roman Catholic harlot. And not from the Bible. And the Roman Catholic harlot relies upon works for salvation.
Teaching that men can lose their salvation by works because they teach that works were part of what saves a person to begin with. Showing that they do not understand what actually happens to us when we are saved.
Because if they knew they could never believe that anyone can lose their salvation after being saved. That being born again is to have a spirit created in us that forever joins us to God. And can never be separated from Him.
This is why Paul spoke of the believer’s relationship with God saying, “Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God’s elect? It is God that justifieth.
34 Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.
35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?
36 As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.
37 Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.
38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,
39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Don’t ever forget this. And the fact that we owe all of this to God’s plan from before He made the world. That created the circumstances in which Adam would eat the fruit for which he would be sent from the garden. Making it possible for all men to come to a saving faith in Jesus and a spiritual relationship with our Creator that can never be lost.
One that Adam could never have known while he remained in the garden. Making the traditional teaching about what happened in the garden so much nonsense. As God’s love shows through in the truth that no matter what Satan intends for evil, God is always 10 steps ahead of him.
Working all things together for good to those who love the Lord and are called according to His purposes. And who are these? These are every man that has ever been born into this world through the water/flesh birth. As Peter says so plainly in 2Peter3:9 where he said, “The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.”
So whether you are born again or not God is working continually on your behalf for your good. And if you have not yet trusted in Jesus for eternal life and want to know His love and have eternal life. Then pray asking Him to save you.
Confess the Lord Jesus with your mouth. And believe in your heart that He has raised from the dead. And you will be saved. Because it is with the heart man believes and is righteous. And with the mouth he confesses and is saved.
This is why Jesus said that by your words you will be justified which is righteous. And by your words you will be condemned. So choose Jesus now and have eternal life. And in the resurrection immortality.
Do this and you will be a child of God and heir to His kingdom. Do this and you will have eternal life and at the resurrection immortality. Do this… and I will see you there or in the air!
