Watchman: Daily Devotional, When the Systems and Governments of Man Have Been Judged and Are No More
Revelation 19:6-8 6 Then I heard what sounded like a great multitude, like the roar of rushing waters and like loud peals of thunder, shouting: "Hallelujah! For our Lord God Almighty reigns. 7 Let us rejoice and be glad and give him glory! For the wedding of the Lamb has come, and his bride has made herself ready. 8 Fine linen, bright and clean, was given her to wear." (Fine linen stands for the righteous acts of the saints.)
When man's institutions and governments have been condemned and are no longer in existence, the Lord God Almighty will reign over humanity. When that happens, the heavens will erupt with a resounding "Hallelujah! For our Lord God Almighty reigns!" God be praised! Man's inequities and biases will end. It is indeed something to be thankful for. God has patiently allowed us to try to run things for millennia, but we have only demonstrated how much of a mess we can make. Give Him praise for putting an end to our ways and methods and eventually establishing His righteous reign.
But there's another cause to raise your voice in admiration. The people of God, who are Christ's bride, have prepared for their marriage to the Lamb. There is that dual work that we find throughout the Bible. She has prepared herself. However, she is awarded a cloak of righteousness. So, which is it? Was it her efforts to follow and submit to Christ's Lordship, or the garment handed to her? The robe represents her noble actions, but it is given to her. He planned beneficial works for us to accomplish ahead of time (Ephesians 2:10).
Rejoice and praise Him. He is preparing you for marriage by working through you. He will dress you in good linen that is bright and clean. The work He is doing in you will be finished, and you will be with the Lord forever. You two will never be separated by death. You are permitted to kiss the Son (Psalms 2:12).
The story concludes with a marriage to the next King. Are you preparing for that day?
