Trump did not perform to the level that was anticipated, despite being pitted against three opponents. Indeed, Kamala Harris stuck to her talking points and showed some humility in acknowledging that she was not a natural improviser. I would have Trump by decision if the scorecard were a professional boxing match, but I was hoping for a knockout.
I highly doubt that anything that happened last night made a difference in any way, and political analysts frequently have a very strained relationship with the common population. Thus, it would be wiser to think about ways to prevent the utter madness that ABC showed us last night rather than waste time watching more highlights.
The legacy media arguments during this election cycle ought to come to an end. At all. GOP, stop making excuses. Just put an end to this insanity and your complicity in it.
More than anything, last night’s event was an interrogation of Donald Trump.
“Why do you refuse to acknowledge the 2020 election? Do you regret not doing more on January 6th? Sir, why are you such a racist? What makes you criticizing our climate deception?
ABC News/Michael Le Brecht II
In what sense is any of it a debate? The American people are the biggest losers in this debate, which was the poorest debate production in history. Not a single significant question that I can think of. Everything about it was clownworld all the way through.
Why are we Americans, the free-thinking, kind, and decent people, still putting up with this?
It’s past time to deprive the corporate media, the supreme “enemy of the people,” of their priceless “debates,” which are really something else totally than discussions. The “debates” give an industry that is rapidly collapsing a lifeline.
Except in cases where a buddy is starring in a show or I have work-related obligations, I never consume corporate media content. The corporate media is like brain seed oil. This sludge is poisonous. I was reminded of why that is last night. It’s horrible to have to see these annoying, stuck-up ABC staffers. It’s not even close to being entertaining. The American people’s minds are abused by it, and even a small amount of exposure to the corporate media’s toxic muck renders us all less intelligent as a result.
Why should the nation continue to accept the phony credentials of people like Linsey Davis, David Muir of ABC, and other extreme politicians? Why do we have to keep acting like these are kind people?
What does a Muir or Davis really mean on a Substack platform? What accomplishments can they claim merit for? How many would subscribe to read their work and see their obedient, boring progression of the Current Thing on an open market?
Muir and Davis are not merely con artists. They are dull, illogical, and uninspired hacks. The GOP ought to quit giving them that platform since they don’t deserve it.
Put an end to self-harm. No more mistreating American citizens emotionally. It’s time to stop the “debates” and start having actual debates in their place.
I do not pretend that Americans will overnight develop the attention span necessary to enthusiastically support a series of debates along the lines of Lincoln-Douglas. I also don’t think that sending them to square off on Joe Rogan’s podcast is the solution. The solution does not lie in having one discussion hosted by Fox News, which is turning into an increasingly inert establishment apparatus, to counterbalance the gaffe of traditional media.
However, there is undoubtedly a happy middle that entails completely eliminating the corporate media, leaving them with little choice but to report and watch the discussion rather than take part in it to support Democrats.
I’m sure you’re as tired of these “debates” as I am, and I for one would never want to watch another one. It’s time to organize genuine debates again, this time without partisan, on-the-spot umpires, and to allow the American people to learn vital facts about the two contenders for the presidency.
