Watchman’s Daily Devotional: When Jesus Finally Came, Israel Was in a Dire Spiritual State. The Jewish Nation Was Enslaved by the Burdensome Legalism of the Pharisees, Who Had Established a Set of Laws That No One Could Fulfill. Does This Ring a Bell?

Advisory: Be careful of what you read on social media. The algorithms used by these platforms have no regard for Biblical truth. They target your emotions to keep you engaged on their site so their advertisers can drop more ads. These platforms exist to enrich their stockholders. Consider God’s promise to Believers in James 1:5, “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.”

Featured Story

The people were filled with uncertainty, seeking a deliverer to bring them peace and freedom from their sins. They were aware of God’s promise of a savior who would forgive their transgressions and purify their souls (Ezek. 36:25-27), yet they were unsure of His arrival and how to recognize Him.

The overwhelming response to John the Baptist’s preaching reflects the anticipation among the people. Matthew 3:5-6 tells us, “Then Jerusalem was going out to him, and all Judea, and all the district around the Jordan; and they were being baptized by him in the Jordan River, as they confessed their sins.” The burning question on everyone’s mind was, “How can I enter the kingdom of heaven?”

Jesus Himself was approached with this question in various forms. In Luke 10:25, a lawyer inquires, “What shall I do to inherit eternal life?” Similarly, in Luke 18:18, a wealthy young man poses the same query. A multitude asks in John 6:28, “What shall we do, that we may work the works of God?” Nicodemus, a respected Jewish leader, visits Jesus at night with the same question, but before he can voice it, Jesus responds, “Unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God” (John 3:3).

Despite their devoutness, these individuals would remain spiritually adrift unless they placed their trust in Christ. This is the sole path to entering the kingdom.

Even today, many seek solace from sin and guilt. God may use you to introduce Christ to some of them. Pray for this opportunity and be ready when it arises.
