Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, who was chosen as Vice President Kamala Harris’s running mate on Tuesday, established a hotline for residents to report neighbors who violated the stay-at-home order he enacted during the 2020 Wuhan virus pandemic.

At that time, the leading Republican in Minnesota, Paul Gazelka, urged Walz to dismantle the “snitch line,” arguing that it was unnecessary and not reflective of how Minnesotans should treat one another. He emphasized the importance of kindness as people navigated their individual needs during the stay-at-home measures.

Despite this, Walz defended his informant system, stating it was for the public’s benefit. In its first week, the hotline received approximately 500 reports, indicating a willingness among some Minnesotans to engage in this behavior.

Walz’s stay-at-home order resulted in the closure of schools and many businesses deemed “non-essential,” including bars and restaurants, restricting citizens to their homes except for essential activities like grocery shopping and exercising.

Although Walz portrays himself as an “every man,” his political stance has shifted further left over the years, supporting anti-police legislation and designating Minnesota as a sanctuary state for doctors who provide gender transition services to minors. Source
